Obama HRC Speech: "I Will End Don't Ask, Don't Tell," Says President Obama
Commented Oct 11, 2009 at 00:59:23 in Politics
“The interpretation of law and its implementation in the states is all established and heavily relied upon by precedent. That is what we seek, a proving ground. A proving ground to put to rest the non-sense that is DADT & DOMA. The argument that 'there's a lot on his plate, and there so much else going on is irrelevant. To prove that point, I suggest everyone open a textbook or 2 or 3 and study WWII. Whatever, and by that i mean EVERYTHING, that is going on in the world, compares little to what 'was on the plate' during that period of our history.”

When the road you walk is dark.
May you always hear,

The gentle singing of the lark.
When times are hard may hardness
Never turn your heart to stone,
May you always remember
when the shadows fall—
You do not walk alone.
You will forever be among us Senator Kennedy. My heartfelt gratitude to your valiant service and faith in the American people.”

“Nothing will happen to these folks, unless we begin to have the type of engagements that are mature and rational and honest. Centuries of racism has manifested the racism in America, it is not the open verbal nutcases who like wearing bedsheets and starting barn fires, it is the regular folks who many do not and have never engaged in such overt acts of racism, who matter. These folks are normal on the outside; they are moms and dads, aunts and uncles, brothers, cousins and sisters and our neighbors. They have been let down time and time again, by cowardice in themselves and those they believed were out to keep them safe from non whites, and while they were not out on the front lines engaging in lynchings, bombings and murder, they did come to see it as justified and necessary to protect themselves from what they believed and believe are inferior people.
The power of racism is today, so omnipotent that it exists even without folks noticing it is being waged and advocated; because the institutions founded in its name continue to perpetuate it with out any loud bells and whistles. Racial profiling is an example of this, there aren't any written rules sanctioning it, but we know it is real and it is disportionately affected non white men. The day to day way such things become acceptable and normal, then push the expectations that it must be protected and kept in place.”

The administration moved heaven and earth for the corrupt banks, GM, Chrysler, the Fed, the stimulus bill and on and on and on... and we can't even get President Obama to throw us a bone. Not even and inkling of any substantive policy changes that might happen. Instead the DOJ writes up a brief that is more damning than anything Pat Robertson might say. And to top it all off, Hillary is the only one who has made a any sort of change at all! ONE cabinet secretary out of how many? And don't tell me she doesn't have a lot on her plate too. My point is this. Why is he worried about appeasing repubs? they are looney tunes and have proven it day in and day out. His popularity has remained high no matter what they have thrown at him. Move on Mr president, we give you the go ahead. Some of your fiercest and earliest supporters with tons of disposable income and lots of ability to advocate are getting a pit peeved. Show us some HOPE and we will back on board fighting for anything you want in a jiffy.”

“If you really want to stare the elephant in the room down, please realize that it's name is HEALTH CARE! Until we as americans, get that HUGE problem under control, our manufacturing base will continue to dwindle no matter how much restructuring goes on. For ever GM worker on the line, they were supporting 10 retirees. That ratio is not sustainable. We cannot compete against countries and companies that have universal or near universal healthcare. Take healthcare out of the profitability equation and GM, Ford and Chrysler can run with the big dogs again, easy.”

“Even with health care and pensions off the table, America still cannot compete with Chinese labor. These CEOs are going to dump health care, pensions, and labor, ALL THREE, and say that they have to do it in order to compete in a global marketplace. These CEOs have wholeheartedly embraced the Wal-Mart ideology. They envision themselves as becoming hugely successful multinational corporations that make things in China and sell them to global markets. Their ideology is that a Wal-Mart job is better than no job at all. American autoworkers will be converted to the auto equivalent of big box clerks--they will wear vests and make minimum wage. GM owners and managers will get rich. They will feed the coffers in Washington. And workers will suffer here and abroad. We'd better get a grip on this real quick, because this is exactly where they are taking us. They are emulating Wal-Mart on a massive scale.”
ROLtheWolf replied on Jun 01, 2009 at 23:56:13
“I agree whole-heartedly that Universal healthcare would pave the way for the job-flexibility that America lacks. Our huge companies have been caught in a bind for decades as the retirees started to build-up on the books. If we had National Healthcare, the companies wouldn't have the burdens of these retirees' health costs, and much more room to lay-off seasonally. Healthcare has become a huge benefit that forces managers to even size up a potential new-hire's state of health, i.e. the source of ageism in hiring. By having a government run (or at least guaranteed) system, the potential to improve the labor market place is exciting.”

“Simple, we already know its here. The Mexican government was slow to react. We were the ones that told them they have it after we confirmed our own cases. By that point, border control was a waste of resources and still is. Every single one of the confirmed cases in the USA was legal traveler or resident of the United States. Right now we need accurate numbers coming into the CDC and WHO. We don't need people being scared about reporting illnesses. The blather going on about securing the border, sending Mexicans home and other nonsense is of no value to helping the current situation.”
WHO Raises Flu Alert Level To Phase 4
Commented Apr 28, 2009 at 00:28:30 in World
“I'd say level 4 is appropriate. They are following protocol. This is not a knee-jerk reaction. Science is based on checking and re-checking the data and reporting it. then making recommendations and a diagnosis. They are seeing the infection spread from human to human in a sustained manner and adjusted the level accordingly. Once that starts happening in different parts of the world, they will increase it again. It's all laid out on the WHO website. I'd be more concerned if they weren't following their own protocols because of political influence.”
nkhogan replied on Apr 28, 2009 at 06:11:18
“I agree. They are following protocol. It is reassuring to know that they're on the case. The advice they are giving is sound and people should follow it. There is no reason to panic, but there is reason for concern. It will be interesting to see how this develops over the next few days.”
