“What happened to civil unions? Oh, forgot, can't have a legal relationship without dissing the Christians.”

Anne Mccormick on Mar 25, 2013 at 20:42:38

“the Federal Government DOES NOT recognize Civil Unions, same sex couples wouldn't be able to file joint-tax returns, be eligible for tax breaks or protections the government affords to married couples. Again, because of DOMA, same-sex couples have to file single on their federal tax returns. there're over 1000 legal rights that straight couples enjoy in the United States. By not being allowed to marry, gays and lesbians are denied these rights. Even in MA, the only US state with legalized gay marriage, most of the benefits of marriage do not apply, because the Defense of Marriage Act states the federal government only recognizes marriage as "a legal union of one man and one woman as husband and wife". some of the legal rights that married couples have and same sex couples are denied: Joint parental rights of children, joint adoption rights, status as next of kin for hospital visits and medical decisions, the right to decide what kind of funeral, or not, the deceased partner will have, automatic inheritance rights if there is no will, social security, survivor veterans benefits, child support and so forth. Now do you understand the problem with civil unions? This idea that the right wing Christians have that they alone get to decide what is and what is not marriage is a product of the dark ages. Those of us who support same sex marriage will keep on dragging Christians, kicking and screaming if necessary, into the 21century.”

“During the same time period traffic fatalities were three times higher. Are we going to ban cars? How approaching the real problem in both areas - people! Not inanimate objects.”

“you cannot just make up facts and toss them out as though they are truths. It would be to your benefit to provide a link to this information.”

“No, not ban them (cars), just pass quite a few laws restricting how they are used. Mountains of legislation exist restricting drinking alcohol and driving, requiring licensed drivers, restricting how fast cars can be driven, removing licenses for bad drivers and so on. So explain why we cannot add legislation about responsible gun ownership that is essentially what the bill in the Senate is attempting to do.”

YrthWyndAndFyre on Mar 23, 2013 at 09:05:03

“As I recall, you are required by law to pass a supervised written and practical test before they'll let you drive a car. How many exams do you have to pass before you're allowed to own and use a 9 mm cannon?”

iirm on Mar 23, 2013 at 09:04:54

“If you remember when traffic fatalities and accidents were rising, we did change our laws to restrict speed limits, lowered alcohol levels and restrict the licenses of young people. Check the stats...all of those have worked....and those driving cars still must be licenced and their cars registered. You argument is off base.”

“Teacake, the number of vehicular deaths would be much higher, but the gov passed laws requring seat belts. You know, it's called regulation. By the way, nobody ever picked up a car, walked into a school and kill somebody. One is an accident. The other is murder. Apparently you teapeople cannot make the distinction.”

charlito on Mar 23, 2013 at 08:58:36

“Yea I know. Why do we have laws against murder, thievery, speeding. People are breaking these laws everyday. We shouldn't have laws period. If I want to have a grenade launcher,I should have the right. Just using republican logic. I'm going to eat my pancakes now.”

Love Los Angeles on Mar 23, 2013 at 08:56:55

“That's true.. Unfortunatly, we are on a very left leaning websight so they blame the object..”

“Do you really not get the difference between an ACCIDENT and Murder?”

“Don't be surprised by this backlash. I was alive when abortion became legal and the promise was "legal, rare and in the first trimester." Millions of abortions later it is any abortion any time. Sad . . .”

Wilson Orshal on Mar 15, 2013 at 19:44:04

“Abortion is not mandatory, it is a choice.
If you were aborted before you were born, would you care?
why do you claim to care about someone else's choice when you wouldn't give a care about the child anyway?”
