“Iran has every right to pull out of nuclear nonproliferation treaty, and that would be a game changer. They are tired of the harassment that they have been receiving. The element of trust is gone in these negotiation, on both sides.”

I grant you I never seen our Foreign Affairs report, I said " sure bet", not them. ............I'm retired Navy (26 years), I think I may know something about the world, from Norfolk,VA and through the world.I served in Vietnam ( one and half years) I have a son in Iraq, who is due to come home before Christmas, and grandson in Afghanistan, and if God willing he will be come home in the spring. You're very fortunate to write about what you don't know about,... if you had known any better you wouldn't have say it from the start. “You can always throw a rock and hide your hands, and deny that you didn't throw the rock. The hold idea is to not get caught throwing the rock, or having the rock in your hands . Yes there evidence of Iranian participation in attack against our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, but the evidence is not overwhelming to justify and all out confrontation with Iran. We know they are making roadside bombs and another weapons, and we also know they are technical adviser on ground attack against our troops in Afghanistan. Yes we can with draw our troops from Iraq, if we want Iraq to become a suburb of Iran. Our foreign policy has always been dictated to us by Israel in that region, and that is not going to change anytime soon, because of our commitment to Israel since 1948.”

Durango replied on Nov 27, 2009 at 15:12:59

“Who exactly are they working with in Afghanistan?

The Taliban who murdered Iranian diplomats in 1997? Who Iran almost went to war with?

If there was evidence of direct participation of Iran in either conflict you would have seen the Bush/Cheney Administration flapping about it endlessly.

They tried to make the connection but failed. Didn't pass the smell test.

But they tried.

BTW any number of people still believe there were WMD's in Iraq.

Andd like Iran, Saddam had ties to al Qaida.”

“Yes, they our involved in attacking our troops in Iraq, and also in Afghanistan, the same as the Russian and Chinese who flew Mig's - 15 and Mig's-17, Mig's- 23during the Korean war and Vietnam . “If India, Pakistan, China has nuclear weapons, its a sure bet that Iran has a nuclear weapon too, everything up to this point has been window dressing. Were caught in a catch-22, you're dam if you do,and you're dam if you don't. There is no quick answer to this problem, world peace lay in the balance. The question should be can we live with a nuclear Iran ? Can Israel live with nuclear Iran?....the clock is ticking and time is running out for both sides. Sanction is only a stop gap, which the Russian, and Chinese has agree to at this point . But there are just too many X factor in play...Would Israel go it alone in attacking Iran?.if they don't agree with the security council resolution ?..if so would Israel need American help in attacking Iran,... If America help Israel would we be drawn in to another war ?...... and how would other Muslim country feel about this conflict ? would they join Iran in their fight. Its just too many X factor that hanging out there. ,.. I know one thing for sure, if The United States or Israel attack Iran, it would only unleash.. the Hounds of hell. Iran will attack our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, attack Israel, cut of the oil that come through "Straits of Hormuz" , which in turn would cause our economy and the world economy to collapse. Yes we may win the battle, but lose the war.”

car217 replied on Nov 27, 2009 at 15:00:48

“Could please explain the X factor I don't understand your thought process here? I don't believe Israel would attack Iran, those consequences are just too high to follow up on. I don't see the United States fighting a proxy war for Israel on any terms. We can't have our national security threaten with the stoppage of oil from the Middle East.”

“This is not going to be a one sided conflict, if you're willing to dish it out (Israel). Then you're willing to received the consequences of your action(Iran). This is a no win situation for either side. After all this is not going to be another six days war. Yes, Israel has threaten Iran, because Israel know the United States will stand behind them, and support them in a military action. Iran will attack Israel, then our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, plus cut off the oil coming through straits of Hormuz, which in turn would cause the world economy to collapse. We may win the battle, but lose the war on two fronts... the battlefield, and the economic front line.”

Khirad replied on Nov 26, 2009 at 20:48:02

“Both the US and Iran see the futility of this. Question is, does Israel? I think they may. The sabre rattling may be just that. Then again, never underestimate a fanatical right-wing regime (that includes both Israel and Iran). Sorry to parse, but at most we would give them implicit support. And, given that even the Bush admin denied a strike request, I think the Israelis would have to take this action unilaterally. And if they were to, why would they broadcast it so much? to lull the Iranians into a cry-wolf scenario? There are many here who know the history of the Levant better than I. How many times has Israel announced an attack?”
