“Some people will grow it, others will just buy it. But legalization could fuel small business ventures...small growing operations, who will need to buy growing equipment like lights and nutrients and such...hey, it's a stimulus in and of itself! Our country is insane for not legalizing marijuana.”

Opt Out Public Option: A Red State Reaction

“"Arizona's growth might abruptly end. As a state with an economy significantly dependent on continued population growth, I can't imagine people moving here when other states would be more attractive. If Arizona were to opt out of providing a health safety net for its population, it would also be incentive for many of our residents to leave."

I live in South Carolina, which is another state likely to opt out of the public option. I wonder how many of our legislators even consider what a blow to the local economy that would be. This is what happens when you live in a state where they govern from a position of rigid ideology instead of reality. Oh well, at least no South Carolinian is in danger of getting a government funded abortion, that's what's important, isn't it?”

“The only people leaving would be the illegals. Almost everybody else has private coverage.”
Why Billionaires Should Pay for the Jobless Recovery

Why Billionaires Should Pay for the Jobless Recovery

Commented Oct 25, 2009 at 00:56:48 in Business

“Those who have managed to amass great wealth have only been able to do so because of our system of government, which defines and controls the economic system. This has always been the case, even before the massive deregulation over the past 30 years that has profoundly redistributed the wealth of our nation and made so many billionaires.

Before Reagan, those who benefited so much from our system of government were expected to pay something back. These days, they put a mailbox in the Cayman Islands to avoid paying taxes (although, admittedly, congress is starting to crack down on that). It's time for those who reap the most rewards to give something back, and I don't just mean individuals; this should apply to corporations and large businesses as well. It's only fair.”

“Thank you for making this point. If there is one thing Obama has done successfully during his term so far, it's been his leadership at the UN meetings. When is the last time any effort towards nuclear disarmament has even been attempted? It's not a trivial acomplishment.”

“"...for all the talk of concern about the Constitution and the growth of government, the tea party protesters were nowhere to be found when George W. Bush trampled the Constitution and grew the government."

I have said this over and over again to republicans and it never penetrates their brains. They tend to get angry at this point and begin ranting about something Clinton may or may not have done, as if that explains everything. They won't hear the truth because they don't want to, they may have to admit unpleasant things about themselves.”

Glenn Beck Has Lost over 50% of His Ad Dollars

Commented Sep 14, 2009 at 23:39:31 in Media

“So far, Fox has been more than willing to support Beck in spite of the financial issues.

Fox News needs to be held to some kind of standard that doesn't exist right now: namely, if you call yourself news, you should risk something for spreading outright lies.”

bassnman replied on Sep 15, 2009 at 00:47:58

“Glenn Beck is not a "NEWS" hour. His show is his "OPINION" and it is growing.

The more advertisers you take away, the more airtime that he gets. No ads=more Beck. The ads take away at least 20 minutes of airtime.

Have you watched him lately? I hated Glenn Back on CNN as he went after the Bush administration but now I realize that he was correct. So I watch now as he was right then, he is probably right now.

Van Jones sunk himself by giving speeches that made it to the internet. The internet in now your own worst enemy.

Acorn has been brought to the front by Glenn as the media won't even look into it.

Where is the media that questioned every move that Bush made? Why aren't we questioning every move this administration makes? It is the media's job to hold all politicians to task.

The bailout by Bush was totally wrong but Obama voted for it. The bailout for the Auto industry was wrong when Bush proposed it and Obama carried it out. The new budget had over 9000 earmarks in it, Obama promised us he would not pass any bill with earmarks yet he signed it. Where was the media on these things.

It seems only FOX is the one to actually ask questions.”

“"Is giving mammograms to find early cancer to every woman cheaper than treating the relatively few cases you catch early? A $200 test to 1/2 the population becomes very expensive."

ummm...yes, mammograms and other preventive procedures are cheaper in the long run. Think how much it costs to treat cancer: catching it early and treating it before it it spreads in ONE person will save enough to pay for thousands of mammograms. Then there's the moral argument. Would you rather save a few bucks and let thousands of women get breast cancer?”

thorntme replied on Sep 14, 2009 at 13:13:16

“Yliza, Your assertion that "in the long run" preventive medicine is cheaper is incorrect. It is as Samcat stated. A relatively inexpensive test, if applied to whole at risk populations, is more expensive than medicine as usual. Better medicine, to be sure, but NOT cheaper. Numerous studies support this contention.”

Stop Panicking About Obama

Commented Aug 24, 2009 at 18:19:42 in Politics

“Thank you. The MSM loves to tell us that Obama is failing because he hasn't solved everything RIGHT THIS MINUTE. I still trust him to do the right thing. He is the first African-American president, he KNOWS he will be in the history books from now 'til the end of the universe. His legacy is important not just to him but to every person of color in the country (and plenty of white people too).”
