Fiscal Cliff Estate Tax Hike May Benefit Financially Troubled States

Fiscal Cliff Estate Tax Hike May Benefit Financially Troubled States

Commented Dec 27, 2012 at 17:43:19 in Business

“The implication here, Squid, isn't that you get taxed the most in dollars and cents - that's obvious considering California is larger than any other state in the U.S. It is that the percentage at which you are taxed is higher than ours, which has nothing to do with the amount a person brings in.

You're also taxed higher in ways beyond income. Your gas tax, for example, is outrageously high, and the insane amount of debt your state is incurring to sustain its ludicrous fiscal policies will also serve as a tax.

You're taxed the most because liberal states run the largest deficits.”

“You do realize Mitt Romney gave literally 1000x more to charity than Biden did this year, right? Look it up. It's a fact.

You do realize that Obama, Buffet, Al Gore, every single wealthy celebrity/musician, and anyone who has ever run for president in the modern age has either purchased or charters private jets on a regular basis, whether it be for luxury or by necessity for business purposes. To liken this to typical behavior of "right wingers" is absurd. It's simply common place among the rich - liberal or conservative.

Frankly, though, by purchasing something on that large of a scale, they're directly helping sustain and even create more manufacturing, engineering, and various other types of jobs than you or I would ever have the opportunity to in 10 lifetimes. So yes, they're doing a lot of good - they're helping to sustain livelihoods, and even whole companies.”

“Well, it worked out marvelously - upon cutting taxes, the federal government received more tax revenue in the following year than it had in any previous year in the history of our nation. The only problem was that Bush was far too liberal, and increased spending and started two wars that outspent the increase. Had he been more conservative, the tax cuts would have been rightly represented as successful.”

“NO!!! Republicans are doings things to HARM the economy. I know. I'm an economist. Republicans are so devoutly religious about trickle-down, supply side economics that they're willing to wreck the economy based on those principles. Even Reagan and Bush I abandoned those principles once they realized they don't work. That is, cut taxes on the rich, and the tax breaks will pay for themselves as the rich hire and create jobs. The truth: it doesn't work. Reagan abandaned the policy once he realized it. But the Republicans are willing to bet our country on it now. The evidence is so overwhelming against it that all one has to do is look at the econemic data.”

He's also said that he would only take a salary of 39,000 dollars as president since it's the median salary in America, and that he would cut congressional benefits and move to end the retirement fund all together. Obama, on the other hand, supports his family by drawing a 400,000 dollar per year paycheck and going on a 4 million dollar vacation at tax payers expense this Christmas.”

“That's baloney.

The poor and the middle class have been screwed for the last 30 years. It's time for those one per centers to feel some of the pain.

These same RepubliBaggers want a flat tax which is double down regressive and disproportionately harms the poor, shafts the middle class, and enriches the already rich.

How do you think that the one per centers have gained so much more of this country's wealth than they had 30 years ago. We have an historically high concentration of wealth with historically low taxes on the wealthy.

Is is not an accident. It has been systematic and purpose driven by the wealthiest of our corporations and the plutocrats who run them

When the real wages for CEO's go through the roof while the real wages of ordinary working people continue to decline, and we have a downwardly mobile society (where more and more of the middle class declines into poverty) there is a sickness at the heart of our economy that will not be cured by redistributing yet more income into the hands of the top percentiles!”
