"There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost. The world will not have it."
-Martha Graham

So let me tell you something.
You are divine.
You are an artist.
You are a channel of creative energy.
The force of creativity is literally dying to be expressed through you.

THERE IS ONLY ONE OF YOU IN ALL OF TIME.

LITERALLY.

It's hard to grasp, I know.
That we are the only expression of our brilliance.
It's easy to think, "oh, it doesn't matter if I write this book or not. Or if I sit down and write this poem. Or if I paint this week or this year. Or if I dance. Or sing. Or if I create my own healing beautiful business. Or if I figure out how to do exactly what I'm meant to do on the planet."

That somehow it doesn't matter. Or that you are somehow inconsequential.

But can I please just tell you how much you are not. Inconsequential.

Can I remind you that it's not a coincidence that you maybe don't feel like you are enough.

The truth is, it's institutional and effed up. And you already know this.

The fact that you may feel like you are not enough in whatever way is a result of the matrix of oppressions that we live in. The system that places some above others and creates a hierarchy of who is brilliant and who is not.

And it's bullshit.

And you know this.

But the only way to resist it is to integrate some medicinal strategies in your life.

The only way to to resist the tired story that you are ordinary is to actually blossom yourself into creation.

How?
Through Social Movements and Connection and Self Care and Community Care and Ceremony and Spirit and TELLING OUR STORIES and Healing and Love and Art. And so many other ways that we invoke our Spirits and invoke our Resilience.

And yes, we can resist by laying down in our luscious beds. By watching Netflix. And going on a walk. And writing a poem. And calling or texting an old friend to tell them that we love them. Or asking a friend or love to praise us because we need to remember how amazing we are.

So I am really wanting to know: how do you honor your Artistry and Brilliance?

Many of you write. Many of you are artists in make-up and fashion {in radical and queer and feminist ways}. Many of you dance and sing and play music. Many of you are activists in all the ways activism happens. Many of you make food and families and build communities in ways that only an Artist can.

And I bow down to you.
To your artistry and your brilliance.
The ways you make and re-make the world in exactly the way that feels good to you.

And, if you feel stuck around this, tell me.

It's a super duper common experience to feel blocked.

I have been there!
And the best medicine for me when I feel that way is not only showing up to my creative playtime {writing, costuming, collaging, etc} ―- but doing so in community. With a guide. With folks to support me and witness me on my journey.

If you don't have that in your life, I invite you to begin creating it in some way. You can email or message me and I can be your ally in brainstorming.

I have your back.
Really.
We have your back.

Let us have your back.

In love,

Sofia
