In my previous post, I said that in America, no one ever gets punished for hurting and disparaging black women. I just learned that both CBS Radio and MSNBC have suspended Don Imus' show for two weeks. I'm sure to many folks, this isn't much of a punishment.
Hmm. I've never rooted for his firing. I am just pro-consequences.
Regardless of what happens, I am glad that his broadcasters seem to be taking this seriously. We are past the days of apology + rehab (the first tired joke of 07) and everything's forgotten. CBS Radio and MSNBC are showing that there can and will be consequences for such awful failures in judgment.
The drumbeat is loud. I wish you strength, Mr. Imus. These two weeks have only begun.
