My PR dude said no, my manager said yes, my lawyer worried about the legal implications, and my guy just wanted me to not get my feelings hurt. In the end it came down to this: I am so fed up with the bickering, bitching, brawling, screaming, screeching ignorance masking as intelligence on the web that is just mean and nasty, for the sole purpose of selling books, getting ratings, garnering listeners, or generating headlines, that my head hurts.
You would think that no one likes anyone anymore, no one has any friends, no one makes love, no one smiles and no one is proud of anyone other than themselves unless it benefits them. I'm a happy person right now. I got some stuff I still need to sort out and some work I want to do on myself, but all in all, I'm not hungry and I still have a place to sleep and my health is good. My parents are healthy, my 90-year-old grandmother is still alive and kicking, I have a few significant people in my life who love a respect me, and my country is on the right path with the right guy at the right time.
It's tough out there, but can a sister enjoy a sunset for goodness sake? I'm stopping to enjoy the breeze, celebrate others who have brought joy to my life, and kick a little knowledge born of my ups, downs, and sideways. It may seem trite to others but it is my intent to celebrate what is blessed, good, smart, stimulating, interesting, inspiring, fun, joyous and positive in my life, my community, our country, and in our world.
Oh stop with the violins! There are already enough stone-throwers and flame-starters on the web; this is my alternative. So no dirt-dishing, back biting, crab-in-the-barrel hatoration will take place on "Positively Star." Like it or not, I vow to elevate only those thoughts, words and deeds of my gender and my race that are examples of excellence and stand as something we can all aspire to. That's what happens when you're closer to the grave than the cradle -- you mellow and take a little time to enjoy the view.

...yeah, I really am exhausted by all the negativity flying through the airwaves and across the internet, these days, so star's post kind of rang true for me. despite my trepidation, I mossied over to Ms. Jone's new blog. I'm glad I made the effort. She's still funny, intelligent, insightful, wise...and positive! To say the least, i'm not crazy about every choice she's made over the last few years. (For one thing...I have a hard time looking at her "new" face and connecting it with the voice of the "old" Star I used to like.) Still...I think Star is showing that the stuff that actually made her cool back in the day is still in there, and it's still worth listening to.
Glad you're well Star. The comment about being happier the closer to grave you get is so true. I'm in that phase of life. I find that I am calmer and less freaked out under stress. I do have great gratitude for the once seemingly taken for granted things like a place to lay my head.
I watch very little t.v., too. Some of those shows really irk me. Esp. reality, but the hardest thing for me to fathom is how people gradually got to a point in which they sell they dignity, in order to be humiliated.
I heard Katt Williams say, that if you are about soemthing and arre for real, you may as well just keep doing what you doing and hold on. Things are turning around slowly, but it will still be a while, before common sense and civility prevail. I agree with him. I actually thought you were gonna write some junk and was prepared to tell you to go back your silly. life. But honestly you have a point. Glad I stopped by.
I'm sure in the coming days your blog will fill with hate, which I hope not. But, if it does keep your head up to the sky Star and continue to be positive and spread the positive. Positive is as positive does.
Wow! So now we are censoring people who dare to point out blatant lies?
Those aren't lies. There are truths to a few people and truths for the majority of people.
I agree, Star, that the web has become festooned with acrimony. Everywhere you look there are sites that revel in the misfortune of celebrities, politicians, and celebrities. We do need a place to visit where we can take joy in the successes of our friends and neighbors. Somewhere that we can just soak up the warmth and enjoy each other's company. I can't wait to become part of that community.
I really like how Mrs. Jones is feeling, I too am tired of hearing about celebrities mess. There are so many things we could be talking about that's positive. She's got the right idea, she's moving on and has decided the past is the past. I like what she's taking. As a African American I'm trying to move on and let my yesterday be just that yesterday. Flavor, is trying to see how she can make things better for humanity. Thanks Mrs. Jones,
Why limit yourself to "your race" and "your gender" to comment on? There is only one race, the human one, and there is only one gender in biblical scholarship. Biblically speaking, God only made one gender; some are male, some are female and some are in between, but they all come from the same clay.
Rev. Simon-Peter
You have never read any of the books, have you? Look, I understand that believers just pull whatever they want out of their holy books, but your claim makes a complete mockery of this liberty.
You have gone too far.
While I agree with you that there is only one race, the human race, you are completely off base in asserting that "there is only one gender in biblical scholarshi p." From Genesis, chapter one: "26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male AND female created he them." I capitalized "and" for emphasis. One race, yes. One gender, no.
The social reality in America is we are very much into tribalism. If that were not so, racism could not exist. It is OK for Star Jones to desire to speak positively to members of her tribe. She has made it clear that she has no intentions of denigrating ANYONE ELSE. If she was a race-bating, man-hating, fear monger, I'd be inclined to agree with you. Since she isn't, perhaps you should should reconsider your point of view. Or not. It is, after all, a free country.
this world is a patchwork, everyone is a different place a differnt understanding. there is no god there is not no god. it is all a reflection of what we are inside. i never saw star refer to race and gender.... maybe i missed something lemme go back and looksee... no..she didnt.
its such as yourself and me, we both have very different ways to get to the mountian top but our paths are different. i think stars idea is fine. we need more postive places to take a mental respet from all the negativity we find ourselves in today. her blog is open for all who care to dip their toe in a happier place...i would call it a social meditation for lack of a better term..
reading the responses to this artical gave me a clearer view of where people are at, they are hungry for a place to find some joy on the net. we need balance and if stars blog helps that i give her two thumbs up. i only caution people not to fall into dualities of this is good and that is bad. angry protests on the net gave us a president who really gives a damn about us more than himself.
i think ill check her blog out. her heart is in the right place and that the most important place to start.
Surprisingly enough, I actually liked reading this post from Star Jones…(yeah I know how it sounds.) She brings up a lot of great points—not to mention the closing homage to her former boss; BW. Best line is the closer to the grave statement—good thing I’m a ways away from that (knocking on wood desk twice.)
