Move Aside George & Gordon - The New Kids Are On The Block

With Barack Obama concluding his Middle-Eastern and European tour today, it got me thinking about just how much I really want to get rid of the status quo and get started on the 'change'.

Obama stopped by at 10 Downing Street to visit Gordon Brown - with whom he most likely had a crusty old conversation about how appalling Gordon is, and how Barack is probably going to win - and then he went over to the golden boy of British politics at the moment, David Cameron.

2008-07-26-art_obamacameron_getty.jpg Now, (for those who are not so familiar with the UK political scene), Cameron is the leader of the Conservative Party - the supposedly more right-wing of the three major ones. At the moment, however, nobody in British politics is right-wing, left-wing or anything else, and the huge shift to the centre is blindigly obvious - which makes watching the weekly Prime Minister's Questions (a chance for the House of Commons to grill Brown on whatever they want for an hour) all the more comical, as it has enitirely become a stomping ground for attacking the PM and him having absolutely no logical or adequate response.

Cameron is most certainly the man to beat in the UK elections in 2010. But there is even talk that it might be sooner - Labour (Brown's ruling party) have just lost one of their safest seats in Scotland to the Scottish National Party - which has caused mumblings of turmoil within Labour and prompted the Conservatives to call for an early election.

And, of course, we all know that Obama is the favourite to win in November, and I still believe with all my heart that he should be able to overcome any attempt by McCain and the GOP to stop him.

David Cameron obviously thinks Obama will win. And if Cameron himself wins in 2010, or earlier, I can only imagine what a great benefit it will bring to our economy, social policy, welfare and healthcare reforms, an end to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and, of course, helping the environment.

Perhaps the prospects for the future aren't so bad, after all?
