Wasn't microsoft conviced of monopoly violations in America and also the Eurpean Union? Isn't Bill Gates a republican so his convictions could be reversed? Is he related to Bernie Madoff? In the government? Are you crazy?

Bill Gates (and his goons in Congress) outsourced most of American IT to Asia in order to make himself an Oligarch. Bill Gates is a glaring symbol of what went wrong with our country.

OH no way!
He's made me spend a fortune I DON"T HAVE, living on a SS income of under $900. per month!
I spent $13,000. to return to college to upgrade my technical knowledge to add to my 40 FORTY years of professional art experience. NO DAY JOB , that WAS my day job!
I managed to get a used MAC G3,, and finagled one way or the other cheap software , I needed, on the basis of my being a Student & then an Americorp working with kids............
I sits in the other room UNUSED! still does everything I wanted it to do EXCEPT connect to the interne.......
THANKS Bill Gates! Now I have a $2,500. intel duo, Need $500. to buy HIS Microsoft to communicate with others! Need to upgrade some of the other software too.
I drive a 25 yr old dsl car (50 mi per gal), own an old house,with low property tax ( at cost of proximity to clients) bake my own bread grow my own vegetables...............but there IS NO LOW COST SELF SUFFIENCY WAY TO AFFORD LORD GATES! ( Supplement to too little SS income is dependant on paying TOLL to GATES!)

Oh yeah, I like Bill Gates, but he's not exactly an exemplary capitalist.

Use his economic power to take over new markets with loss leader predatory pricing.. yeah..
Use his monopoly to force others in the industry to squeeze out competition.. .sure
Kill smaller markets by loading their products into his ubiquitious operating system or small market features into his ubiquitious Office application? ... yep...

This is all saavy business... but no reassurance for small business or open markets.. Big fish eats the smaller fish all the way... strive for monopoly and exploit it.

Not necessarily dishonorable (it's the game), but not what I want in a Commerce Secretary.

Bill Gates made his fortune by being one of the dirtiest businessmen in recent history. He's mellowed lately, but there are plenty of people around who remember his tactics in the '70's and '80's and don't want him around as part of the government.

Barack should name Bill Gates to something, ANYTHING - come up with an entirely new cabinet level position...part-time, if necessary. All things considered, this guy really needs to be sitting around the cabinet table in some capacity.
