The pressure on Obama from self-centered, single-Issue constituencies has started.
Don't you get it? We have an opportunity unlike any other for decades: a chance to bring people together for the common good, repeat: common good. This means uniting people on something they all want, not pursuing again a policy favored by one or two constituencies.
"U.S. (Catholic) Bishops Urged to Challenge Obama" on abortion says the NY Times. Sure. Let's heckle the new president with this divisive issue as he tries to figure out solutions and enlist support for millions of people being thrown out of their homes, people being laid off who have little prospect of earning enough to feed their families, people without health care coverage or going bankrupt because of it.
Not to single out the Catholics. The Republicans have already shown their stripes with the first public comment on this administration's choice of Chief of Staff. And it appears they will be anything but a loyal opposition, looking for ways to cooperate and break deadlock, thereby earning some compromises in their direction later. And the left wing Democrats are pushing their pet agenda items including muting right wing radio, a card check system for unionizing without a secret ballot and more.
That's my view. What's yours?

I completely agree with you. Obama should deal with issues that affect EVERYONE, first. The Economy, Iraq and Healthcare. I keep seeing statements/articles from friends and foes about what Obama needs to do, what issues to tackle on day one and who to appoint - more women, more hispanics, etc. A lot of these people will have to get in line, sit tight and be patient. In addition, I provide this advice from a former employer: Never come in to a meeting complaining about a problem without offering solutions. Real, viable solutions.
