Drudge Plays the Race Card

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

In the New York Times, Adam Nagourney identifies "race" as one of the six factors that could prevent the election of Barack Obama. The others, as paraphrased by Mark Halperin, are "(1) not everyone who has recently registered as a Democrat may vote on Election Day; (2) the Democrats' improved voter turnout effort may still not work as effectively as the Republicans' effort, (3) the race may swing back to McCain under the "pendulum theory," and (4) a national security event in the closing days could "shuffle the deck of cards," and (5) the Ayers attack could end up sticking."

Matt Drudge appears to have decided which horse he is going to ride. All day, the Drudge Report, which has been more one-sided than usual recently (lots of Bill Ayers, little Troopergate), has featured this picture of Barack Obama (presumably) campaigning in Ohio.

Well, it worked on Harold Ford.

The worst thing you could do is to make a big deal about the picture and make it a story when it's a non-issue. By posting on the picture Drudge got exactly what he wanted. The Republicans want this race to come down to race and they love when people post about how this is racist and that is racist. Don't fall for it. If they are going to sink to using racism then let them do it, don't aid them.

I noticed this immediately, today, as I opened that site. It was the first thing that I saw, and there was no question in my mind at the time what the photo was to portray.

They're not even trying to veil their racism, like they usually do. This is blatant racism. Period.

I saw more than a dozen photos of Obama's door-to-door campaign in Ohio, yesterday. Why this photo? I think it's clear.

Sickening and pathetic--it applies to Drudge, Palin, McCain and all who strategize to call on the most limited and ugliest side of humanity as an effort to win an election. There is a concept taught to those in recovery from addiction--"think your way past the lust for the drink to the aftermath/consequences." What in the hell do these folks picture as the aftermath and consequence of such dispicable tactics chasing the lust to win--for others it will be hurt, anger, violence, aggression--for the perpetrators loss of career, loss of respect, loss of dignity.....McCain will be a greater prisoner to his loss of self respect and his dignity than he ever was in the past.

Did you ever watch "Citizen Kane?" We know exactly what the right's headline will be:

"FRAUD AT POLLS"

Thanks for calling Drudge out, Mr. Kaus. I hope others follow suit.

During the Democratic primaries, Drudge clearly favored Obama over Clinton. I wasn't surprised to see him ditch his phony Obama support once the contest shifted to Obama vs. McCain.

Yep, that picture is a subliminal time bomb, and it's not just because he's kissing her. Look carefully. Drudge really is sinking low here.

Perhaps it was the half-white side that was kissing the white girl, in which case it's ok. White people need to get over their fear of the black man. Why is it that whites don't acknowledge that today it's the white women that pursue black men, especially if the black man has money, fame, or power? With respect to O, he's got a lovely woman in Michelle who I'm sure would kick his skinny butt if he strayed. This picture will only incite the racist folk who weren't going to vote for O anyway.

Drudge is a wanker. But thousands of wing nuts and rapture ready look at his page.
There should be some creative way to do some payback here. Any suggestions?

I am not American, what is the meaning of the picture?

Republicans love to stir up rednecks with the "They coming fo' yo white women." More of the same.

Someone's trying to make a stir showing a black man kissing a white woman, which bigots would find abhorrent.

60 years ago this would have gotten him killed in the South. Example, Emmitt Till. He got lynched for supposedly whistling at a white woman.

For your average American racist, nothing gets their blood boiling more than the thought of a black man with a white woman. A picture like that is meant to stir the darkest hate in the racist mind.

Sadly, there are much deeper implications than just raciest being fired up by this scenario. I have always said that you can never really know your parents’ racial views until you bring home a black man for dinner. I have known a lot of people who thought they had been raised by a progressive, liberal, open-minded family only to discover that the idea of their daughter dating a black man was unacceptable.

Also note the picture Drudge put up when O first announced Biden for VP, I had to loook twice at it because it looked like Obama was kissing Joe's wife, of all the pics he could have picked...But yeah his coverage is crazy slanted of late, only covers polls if there is good news for McCain in them.

White American men are afraid of the POWER of the black man.

Surely none of this is a suprise. Further, the people who've not had a problem to date with Obama's skin color are unlikely to have a problem looking past the racist messaging. As for the undecideds (assuming they exist), they've seen the black guy in action for two years but, apparently, still haven't rejected him outright. If GOP messaging works on them, my guess is that they've all along been intending to vote against Obama for race-based reasons. To counter all this nonsense and drive a stake through the mouth-breathers on the right, Dems need to execute, which means getting as many voters to the polls on the day it counts.

Time's Karen Tumulty spent some time in Virginia this week covering the ground game in that battleground state, and happened upon an interesting little scene.

In McCain's Gainesville, Va., office, Virginia Republican Party Chairman Jeff Frederick, standing on a folding chair, spoke to 30 campaign volunteers who were about to go canvassing door to door.

He gave them "talking points," Tumulty writes, "for instance, the connection between Barack Obama and Osama bin Laden."

Said Frederick: "Both have friends that bombed the Pentagon," in a reference to Obama acquaintance William Ayers. "That is scary."

Added a woman: "And he won't salute the flag."

Man, I was wondering if I was the only one who noticed this.

This pic is from a slide show of some 588 pictures.

So why pick the only one (that I could find) of Obama kissing a young blond white woman?

Why not Obama and the dog or maybe pic #120---Obama with US flags behind him?

Yeah, I have had enough of this subliminal racist bullshit.

Drudge has become a useless site for unbiased news sources.
