Giuliani: Up To His Old Tricks

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani has a well-honed arsenal of tricks he uses during his campaigns -- but especially in his encounters with Hillary Clinton. For example, in the midst of his aborted senatorial race against Ms. Clinton in 2000, the mayor attacked the Brooklyn Museum of Art for displaying a painting by a British artist, Chris Ofili, entitled "Holy Virgin Mary" that included clumps of elephant dung. He assailed the museum for using taxpayer dollars to support an "anti-Catholic" exhibit and then tried to cut off all city funding to the institution and evict it from a city-owned building. He was clearly attempting to distract voters from his own unpopularity as mayor and curry favor with his Catholic base and place Ms. Clinton on the defensive with religious voters. It didn't work. Eventually the museum and the mayor reached an out-of-court settlement which renewed city funding and allowed the museum to continue to make its own decisions on its exhibitions. Shortly afterward Mr. Giuliani dropped out of the race.

Now Mr. Giuliani has decided to use the MoveOn.org advertisement against General Petraeus in last Monday's New York Times in the same way against Senator Clinton --to distract right-wing Republican primary voters about his record on abortion and gay rights and gain their support while at the same time suggesting that Senator Clinton's doubts about General Petraeus are unpatriotic and are part of her "political venom." Nobody should be surprised by this sort of calumny. This is part of the demagoguery that this ex-prosecutor has used so often in the past. But this time around, like the last time, this dog won't hunt. And who knows, maybe Mr. Giuliani will drop out again.

Lacking "statesmanship" and "spewing political venom" is Rudy speaking for himself.

I for one am happy that we have Moveon.org to speak our minds - although Democratic candidates should not lower themselves to Rudy's level, we have Moveon.org as our attack dogs.

New Nickname for Wudy - Symbolic Boy.

"One-note Wudy" or "911 Wudy" doesn't quite cover it. At the core, Wudy doesn't really accomplish anything positive or worthwhile - but he's really good with the photo ops, the posing and the symbolism. And if one looks at the qualifications of the current White House squatter - I'd say walking around southern manhattan looking like you know what you're doing in front of the cameras makes you more than qualified. Heck Wudy probably even knows the difference between APEC and OPEC - for that - he's definitely got my vote.....sheeesh....Just when you thought it couldn't possibly get any more absurd.......

Rudy raves and rants like a rabid dog salivating. What else is new? Ninety-nine percent of his mayoralty was spent trashing everyone and then when 911 came along he opportunistically hooked into profiting from it and hasn't stopped. His latest editorial rant is a waste of money and our time.

hillary could have simply denounced moveon.org and it would have been a non-story. but her pandering to the fringe left is far more telling then rudy calling her on it. brilliant move by rudy, just look at all the posts on huffington he is getting. thompson has been drowned out, and rudy is on his way to winning the money race in the third quarter, using hillary as a punching bag the whole way. brilliant.

Repubs can't use family values anymore. National security is going to be a loser to them since Bush created al Qaeda in Iraq and bin Laden is still somewhere. Even Newt thinks Democrats will win 80-20 in '08. If Rudy is the nominee, I think everyone will have a field day just reminding everyone about his sordid past.

Our next President will be Hillary Clinton. Barak Obama may be VP, and Joe Biden will be Secretary of State.

The new born again Christian mantra. Ethics and family values are out. They're trumped by 'security.' The goodly shepherds have made it clear to their sheep that they are free to vote for transvestite, thrice marriage, corrupt and vile, yea verily, even Mormon politicians if they pass just one rule; They must promise to keep them safe and the war on Muslims going. The sheep will sleepily look up from chewing their grass and just say, "baaaahhh" and then do whatever the good Sheperds say.

Trudy already sees the writing on the wall, desparate attacks are a sure sign of the Republi-con angst. Hillary will beat him like a stepchild once again.

Gop or CYA Party know they are losing the "national security" argument BECAUSE of Iraq and Petraeus just said as much in answer to Warners' question.

The CYAers have gambled all thier bets on "national security'-so they will lie, cheat, kick, and scream to maintain that mirage.
They lose that-they know they have nothing for the upcoming elections.

Boy, the GOP really does not like it when the Dems show some backbone and tell the truth.

Why?

It's the truth they are most afraid of.

The ones that made the Move-On ad have the backbone. Not the cowards (including John Kerry, Barak Obama, John Edwards, AND Hillary Clinton) running away from it.

Giuliani and Bush are cut from the same fabric: both are phonies but from opposite ends of the spectrum. One is sly as a fox; the other dumb as a gatepost. It's incredible that this nation in the 21st century can't produce political candidates without scraping the bottom of the barrel.

1st question is which is sly and which is just dumb?

2nd question is haven't you heard of Dennis Kucinich? Why is he "un-electable"? What about John Edwards or Barack Obama?

I personally don't think Giuliani has any integrity. When he was chief of the criminal division at the Department of Justice he made frequent trips to Miami while he was dating Donna Hanover. I suspect he charged those trips to the government. He used to show up at the office for a brief period then disappear.

RUDY IS ONCE AGAIN TRYING HARD TO LOOK LIKE A 9/11 HERO...IT IS ALMOST PATHETIC.
WHY THE HECK CAN'T MOVEON ASK WHY THERE WASN'T THE SAME OUTRAGE, WHEN THE SWIFTBOAT LIARS ATTACKED A VIETNAM WAR HERO? WHERE WAS THE GOOD MAYOR THEN? THE DOUBLE STANDARDS FROM THE RETHUGLICAN PARTY IS SICKENING.
