Two more milestones in the retreat from America's imperial overextension in Iraq:
(1) John Edwards has an op-ed in the Washington Post Outlook section today on Iraq: the first 3 words are "I was wrong." This is potentially very important. It could have huge political ramifications. I suspect Elizabeth, his wife--and if so, more power to her.
But what a rare event--a politician who admits a mistake. George, Dick, Hillary, Joe--care to join him?
(2) The cover of the Nation magazine says "The American war in Iraq--an unprovoked, unnecessary, unlawful invasion that has turned into a colonial-style occupation--is a moral and political catastrophe." The Nation goes on to say it will not "support any candidate" who does not push for a "speedy end to the American war in Iraq."
Kudos to new publisher Katrina vanden Heuvel for that one...
