If the James Beard Awards recognize the best of the food industry (they're often called the "Oscars" of the food world) then Steve Dolinsky is certainly the nation's premier TV and radio food broadcaster . Since 1995, he's won 12 Beard Awards for his TV and radio work.

Currently, he is the Food Reporter for ABC 7 - Chicago. Every Wednesday and Friday at 11 a.m., he introduces his two-minute "Hungry Hound" segments live, covering a range of topics. He also appears on the station's 10 p.m. news every Friday night - the #1-rated newscast in Chicago.

In 2007, Steve launched "The Hungry Hound Radio Show," which aired every Saturday at 5 p.m. CST. The lively, one-hour show on WCKG (105.9 FM) had live guests each week from the food and wine world, and also took listeners' calls on a wide range of subjects.

From 1997 - 2007, Steve filed reports for WBEZ-FM's "848" program. As the Chicago outlet for National Public Radio, Steve's reports on WBEZ mirrored the style and scope of the stories heard on NPR. Dolinsky can also be heard occasionally on Public Radio International's "The World," a co-production of WGBH-Boston and the BBC World News Service.

Steve has also written about restaurants, chefs and the Chicago-area food scene for The Chicago Reader, Citysearch.com, Chef Magazine and CS Magazine.

In 2002, Steve started Culinary Communications, a food industry-focused media training company that works with chefs and other food and beverage professionals outside of Chicago, teaching them how to prepare for and handle all kinds of media exposure.

From 1995-2003, Dolinsky was Executive Producer and Host of "Good Eating." The weekly, half-hour show aired on CLTV (Chicagoland TV), the 24-hour cable newschannel owned by The Tribune Company.

Magical Mangos

There are certain foods that instantly transport you. Sometimes, when a kao soi has just the right balance of coconut milk, chile and pickled mustard greens, I'm whisked off to that night market in Chiang Mai. Similarly, a warm, puffy homemade pita that's slathered in a crunchy, herbal, sesame-flecked za'tar...

Why is it when people think of late-night eating (or anything involving soaking up alcohol) they immediately gravitate to taquerias and sliders? Quite a few bars and restaurants are now offering late-night nibbles, and over the weekend, I was faced with the prospect of...

Chicago is home to all kinds of wonderful sandwiches. The mammoth subs at Bari in West Town, the juicy/sweet/hot/dipped beefs at Johnnie's in Elmwood Park and the crunchy French-inspired Vietnamese bahn mi at Bale Bakery in Uptown are a few of...

When I heard Urban Belly was opening this week, I was a little skeptical, and frankly, worried I wouldn't have a good experience. I try to stay away from the arms race in food coverage currently being waged by Time Out, Metromix and...

I tend to shy away from making proclamations about the "best" this or that on local menus. I mean, c'mon, how the hell do I know what the best version of something is? I certainly have my opinions, and I tend to defend them...

I've always been a big fan of pork. I know a lot of people say that these days, but few of them grew up in a kosher home in St. Cloud, MN and were deprived of swine as children, like I was. It seems...
