"I don't know if we've ever had an opponent who is so disliked by Republicans as Al Franken," said Minnesota Republican Party Chair Ron Carey. "It's one thing to lose to an honorable opponent, but Al Franken is not considered an honorable opponent by Minnesota Republicans."
If Mr. Carey and the rest of the Republicans would like to see how they've come to realize their, and Bill O'Reilly's worst nightmare, they need only look in the mirror. When I sat down in 2002 to speak with Franken about how seemingly adversarial conditions played a positive part in his life for my book, "Great Failures of the Extremely Successful," he had no idea that some of his greatest adversaries would help him to become a member of one of America's most exclusive clubs...the U.S. Senate.
The straw that broke the far right wing's back came in the form of a READ THE REST OF THE HOW THE REPUBLICANS PUT FRANKEN INTO THE US SENATE

Also give Dubya some credit on this front. Remember his speech about McCain being qualified because he could deal with the Angry Left. He did that on a national speech from the White House. I thought of the same idea when he said how proud he was that he would be able to witness the first Black President in our history to follow his terms. Old clueless George still unable to put 2 and 2 together; that with your 8 year run of right wing retardedness, the range of electability went off the charts.
Thanks Dubya, because I think Obama is just what this country needs and we really have not done a good job of putting the right people in charge for a long time.
Funny that the Minn GOP feels that way. Funny because I view Norm Coleman as an opportunist and without an ounce of integrity. Furthermore, I've followed Franken since his show on Sundance, and believe he will set a new standard for honesty in a group that is deficient in it.
We shall see which of these men gets indicted and/or convicted first. I like Colemans chances.
Obama totally knew about this lesson. He barely mentioned Palin during the Presidential election. Anything he would have said, would have been used as ammunition against him. If Coleman had acted like he wasn't running against anybody, he probably would be Senator right now.
Very interesting insights. It will be interesting to see how the Propaganda against Franken and Obama plays out over then next 4 years. Lord knows Bill, Sean and Rush are salivating.
A cautionary tale for the left that I think we won't listen to. We're a little drunk right now...
I feel pretty sober. The "high" only lasted for a few hours for me on 11/4. We've got a lot of work to do

Repubs began their decline with their unending bitter attacks on Bill Clinton, accusing him of drug deals and even having people ki//ed. They were so extreme in their hatred and their attacks that Al Franken wrote books and did a radio show on Air America in response. The Repubs are definitely gettng what they deserve with Al Franken in the Senate. Give 'em ulcers, Al.
Ron Carey, was initially a Huckabee supporter. What does that tell you?
In the absence of Nina Garcia, I question his taste level.
Great content, but bloggers of all stripes REALLY need to take a basic grammar course and/or be more careful reading over what they've written in a white-hot frenzy of inspiration. It may seem picky, but it makes me (and others) cringe, weakens the impact of the writing, and gives ammunition to people who put bloggers down.
n HIM and Franken."
"Rather than paint Franken as a deviant, it drew even more support and closed the divide between he and Coleman."
This is SO common. I think people heard so much that they should say, "It is I, he, etc." that they overreacted and became afraid to use words like me, him, her, etc. It's "between you and ME," "...betwee

"Meanwhile, O’Reilly, continued to attack Franken as well as whomever didn’t lay down for Bill’s side of an argument."
This one is weird and seems like it should follow the same rule as above, "as well as him," therefore "whomever," but it's in a subordinate clause, he (or she) didn't LIE down, therefore "WHOever didn't LIE down."
agree. grammatical mess can be very distracting.
Agreed.
e come to realize their -- as well as Bill O'Reilly's -- worse nightmare, they need only to look in the mirror."
Furthermore, that comma after O'Reilly is totally unnecessary. You'd think it introduces an appositive phrase, but it doesn't. O'Reilly is the subject, continued is the verb, and no comma is needed to separate the two (unlike Bill and those he chooses to attack).
This one is hideous, imho: "If Mr. Carey and the rest of the Republicans would like to see how they’ve come to realize their - as well as Bill O’Reilly’s worst nightmare - they need only look in the mirror."
The dashes go AFTER O'R, not nightmare. Nightmare is the object of the infinitive "to realize", but setting it inside of that clause directs the action to "they." Delete the text inside of the dashes and the sentence makes no sense. Should be "...they'v
Either way, the sentence is weak and awkward. It would be better altogether to remove Mr. O'Reilly from the statement -- which is probably the understatement of the month ;-)
Steve,
That's just the same as the reason that Obama won! Honestly, the greatest non-monetary contributor to the Obama campaign was a man by the name of george walker bush!
I agree with your first sentence but the second one doesn't follow. Bush wasn't out there demonizing Obama. O'Reilly, Hannity and Palin were.
Yes, but do you think that Obama could have been elected if we hadn't just had 8 years of BUSH?????????
