Better than explain the inartful headline, it would be better to read the complete statement issued by Talk Radio Network (posted below*) - the company who owns Michael Savage's radio show - that lays out their defense of Savage's inartful comments about Autistic children. Don't be surprised if Savage or his Network claim that the complete, unedited statement has been taken out of context or cut and pasted for your pleasure. It seems that argument applies to anything that exposes any of the broadcast Lords of Loud by printing/playing their actual words...in context and unedited...artfully.
TRN's CEO, Mark Masters investigated what they're calling "84 seconds of commentary concerning autism" by asking Savage what he meant, wherein Savage "explained the circumstances and intent of his statements in considerable detail."
TRN's statement asserts, "In the context of his broader concerns, it is clear that Dr. Savage's comments were intended to suggest his opinion that, in the vast majority of cases, most children throwing tantrums, or refusing to communicate, are not autistic. Unfortunately, by condensing his multifaceted concerns into 84 seconds of commentary, the necessary context for his remarks was not apparent, and the few words he used to express his concerns were, in this instance, inartfully phrased."
Should we not have penalized John Hinkley because he inartfully attempted to impress Jodie Foster in 3 or 4 seconds of inartful action?
Now I realize no one was physically injured by Savage's comments, but ...READ THE REST OF THE STORY HERE

Thanks.
I know exactly where Savage was coming from in his unfortunately bungled idiotic attempt to address the wider issue of America's obsession with overindulgence and victimhood.
A couple of decades ago the big medical revelation about mis-understood children was "Tourette's Syndrome" wherein the afflicted child "spontaneously" starts loudly cursing and spitting at any given moment when his/her temper is ruffled. It was a big thing! Over the ensuing years it was determined that you could stop "Tourette's Syndrome" in its tracks by administrating good, sound spankings when the brat decided to push the boundries of decent decorum. Seemed like "Tourette's Syndrome" has all but disappeared.
I think Savage was addressing the same over-protective mindset of those parents who view their kids as victims whose rights can overide everybody elses rights. Autism is real, tragic and I know it. Savage just chose the wrong venue to present his message.
What, pray tell, is the right venue for suggesting that autism can be cured by physically and verbally abusing children?
