UPDATED: O'Reilly Can Get the Same Ad Rate as MoveOn.org at the NY Times

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

Despite what journalist Bill O'Reilly said today on his radio show about MoveOn.org receiving a special discount rate for their NY Times' General Petreaus display ad, based on the fact that the Times is in bed with Moveon.org and George Soros.

Referring to a report from ABC's Jake Tapper, he said that Moveon.org received a 65% discount as a "family discount," because the Times and Moveon are in bed with each other; that "if you're a left-wing smear site the Times will give you a discount." My guess is that his 65% discount came from a misread of a right wing web site.

Problem is, Bill O'Reilly could get the same rate OR LOWER!

So says, Katherine Mathis, Vice President of Corporate Communications at the Times.

"It has nothing to do with ideology," said Mathis today, "It has to do with the day it appears and how it is placed."

The Times advertising department categorized the Moveon's ad as an "advocacy" (cause and appeal) ad, and the rate isn't based on which side of the political aisle you're on. It depends on any number of factors, including whether the ad is in color or black & white and the manner of placement.

Tony Snow told Sean Hannity he heard that the Times and Moveon were in collusion.

Bill said that others who advertise in the Times are going to be up in arms to find out how Moveon.org. received the special rate.

All they have to do is contact the Times. They'll be glad to take your money and place your ad. If you want to leave the day and section placement a bit loose, you might get the same rate or better than MoveOn did.

Even you, Bill.

And you don't even have to crawl in bed with George Soros.

BTW, Bill said his people can't get an answer from the Times. I made one call.

Spreading a story before he substantiates it. Some journalist.

UPDATE: On Friday morning, even with the Times policy in front of him, Bill said that MoveOn received their discounted rate from the Times because "they are simpatico with MoveOn," and that the Times was then forced to give Giuliani the same rate.

Some days I can not believe O'reilly exists and makes millions of dollars a year and Fox is number one in America. I feel like that crazy kid from St.Elsewhere ... is this all a psychotic break?

Unreal.

I don't know if anyone has seen today's NYT. But, there is a full-page ad attacking Hillary Clinton by the Guiliani campaign.

And from what I've read, Guiliani got the same rate as moveon.org.

So, there.

It's ridiculous to think that O'liesolot would tell the truth about anything. The man can't even be honest about his childhood! He's a pathological liar.

Olbermann asks his guests about a subject, then listens to their response without interruption, then thanks them for appearing in a calm intellect based manner.

Bill O'Reilly asks his guests a question, usually "what say you?" and then commences to step all over their answer if it doesn't fit his idealogy, interrupting them and bullying them to get his stupid point across.

Kinda like George and his puppet generals.

There's a difference between discussion and propaganda.

And Billo tapes his show so that if anybody does manage to get a word in edgewise, he can censor it. Former guests have reported this. What a fair man Billo is, huh?

So, the moveondotorgy AD just HAPPENED to run on the day of the hearings and just HAPPENED to be placed on the right opening page?

Yea, right.

No, it didn't just "HAPPENED", it was PLANNED that way! All anyone has to do is pick up the phone and call the advertising department of the newspaper, ANY newspaper. You even get to decide how big of a print to use, if you want to use colors, on what page the ad will appear and even where on that page the ad will appear. Try calling the advertisement department of ANY newspaper before you go off on some conspiratorial, lame-brained rant. If you can't manage to get fair prices on the open market you have no one to blame but yourself. It is quite the capitalist market after all, isn't it?

The last line says it all. O'Reilly is no journalist.
Like the Limbaughs and Coulters and Olbermans of America, O'Reilly has an audience to play to and he fashions his persona and "reporting" to stroke them. I lump Olberman in with the rest only as an example of someone who plays to his audience(Oh the righteous indignation!).
The difference between Olberman and O'Reilly etc.. is that Olberman is reporting on and criticizing the government, which some of us think is a good thing. You know, big powerful unchecked government is a bad thing? O'Reilly and company merely spend their time criticizing and sneering at those who would criticize the government.
Mere propagandists. Rich ones.

Is it just me?
I can't even watch BOR, not even in the name of research.
The man makes my skin crawl, and I'm overcome with a sense of shame, fear, loathing, et al.
I ask myself how can a person be that fucked up. And of course what follows is, "what kind of person would listen to his bullshit and even remotely believe it to be the truth".
Sometimes I get this strange thought that the problems we face as a nation have very little to do with the prez, congress,BOR, or whoever is the currant flavor of the day, and everything to do with us.

Oh, and by the way, did you know that since Sept.11 2001, 270,000 women, read (Mothers, wives, daughters, friends) have died from breast cancer in this country.

Fbor!

Sometimes you simply have to exercise extraordinary control over your gag reflex. That's really the only way you'll know for sure what old Bill-Bighead is up to.
And in this information age....sometimes you just gotta vomit on yourself. A recent poll done by a major Eastern University suggests that Bill O'Reilly has caused only 13% less vomiting by the public than the king of nasuea himself----Bush the Murderer!

... Steve, you actually referred to O'Lielly as "..a journalist.." (rofl)?! C'mon now, I know you were being generous (to say the least), but seriously, O'Lielly is as much a journalist as I am (maybe Bill-os cheese-laden private dick(!) novel would be considered by some as 'writing', but..well..Bwahahaha)..! ;) ...

Analyst, huh? I'm sure that most of his listeners take that into account when listening critically to Bloviating Bill, right? To analyze, one must first have FACTS, and that requires research. Took Steve one phone call, and Bill lied about trying to contact the NYT. What a great analyst you rely on for your fair and balanced BS.

The problem for poor ol' sexual harassing, lying, megalomaniacal, unpatriotic, racist, homophobic, sexist Bill is simple: he can't believe that The New York Times could be fair. Because it is. And he doesn't know how to be. Nor do his friends at the often mispronounced Fox News.

LVL,

It's probably got a name.

You know, the syndrome wherein people can't conceive of anything beyond themselves.

My favorite example is, "Einstein. I don't understand a WORD! WHAT an IDIOT!"

BOR can only understand cheating and lying and general negativity.
So….nothing else EXISTS.

Sad, really.

(Thank you for reading this.)

What makes you think that any employee of Mr Murdoch would even consider buying an ad in the competition? O'Really would use the NY POST to reply to MoveOn or the NYT. O'Really would write his response. O'Really is a master of the tabloid style aka rabble rousing. One need not admire O'Really & his views to give him grudgingly given credit for being a master of his craft.

There is no doubt at all that the NYT will give the discounted rates now, now that they've been caught with their hand in the cookie jar.

I can't wait to see what happens when everyone else that has paid full price for the full page ads demand a refund for the difference, the NYT will go broke, HALLELUJAH!

Mr./Ms. ds,

Just curious, now that there is some degree of evidence that repubs and Democrats think differently
http://www.wired.com/politics/security/news/2004/10/65521 :

Why do repubs very rarely do the research behind their comments (when applicable, of course)? Almost never include links, either.

Liberals much more frequently provide links and/or additional sources. You can see the difference in pretty much any forum.

Why is it that both you and BOR assume negativity, whereas the only thing Mr. Young assumed was his own ignorance in the matter. He made a phone call.

Is this part of how the brains are wired differently?

Thank you for your time.

Bill-O is news for bitter, ignorant people. Nobody over a certain IQ listens to him. He makes them feel smarter. Arms them with the moronic heading of "Talking Points", so that they feel prepared to enter a political discourse.

The TP's are failing now, based on falsehoods since exposed. Bill is wrong, but his followers don't know how to escape the trap. Foolish pride keeps them there.

In spite of that, many are abandoning him anyway.

Those are true Americans.

I'm pretty sure you could have the NYT advertising department go door to door talking to the people who pray at the altar of O'Reilly and they still wouldn't believe it.

Good point, Wilson. The New York Times probably lies about its advertising rate everyday to people who ask about it. Billy Boy has only been caught lying a couple times, at most.
