Steven Nereo has spent a number of years writing everything from true crime to scripts for beauty shows. He currently focuses most of that energy answering advice while randomly observing life for his site, Single Ape. (http://www.singleape.com) When not typing, his Los Angeles days are filled with walking dogs, riding bikes, playing in the ocean or taking pictures. He currently has two books titled Single Ape and Single Ape 2, and is just finishing up the third, (creatively titled), Single Ape 3. Each contain a year's worth of questions and their answers. As much as he appreciates the books for the time and energy they require to compile, Steven’s proudest moment would have to be the time he sold a cashew on Ebay for $150.

Discussing Facebook with people who know me always reminds me of that Conan O'Brian joke he told the graduating class at Harvard about how for the rest of their lives, whenever they do something stupid they will inevitable hear the words "...and you went to Harvard?!" as if doing so...

I once went to Berlin for a few weeks and worked with a guy who grew up there in the Soviet Zone. I was fascinated by his stories of living under communism in a cold, industrialized city before the fall of the wall. The thing that struck me the most...

The 2013 Ditch List

There's not much in life like the re-birthing power of a New Year to kid yourself into believing you're going to do it all differently this time. Personally, I don't do the resolution thing because rolling into February with a failed attempt at something isn't my idea of a great...

I remember July 18, 1984 really well. I was at camp in Maine -- ironically, at the shooting range -- when someone shared the outside-world news that a man had shot people at a McDonald's in California. I know this incident -- where a man walked the restaurant and...

Hating on Los Angeles

Of course, whenever someone writes a biting article on our little valley of angels we call Los Angeles, a bunch of people send it to me. Today's was this guy from Vice who for some unexplained reason has moved to "the worst place ever" to live. Usually that means...

When I was in junior high and high school, I was really into lacrosse. So much so that when summer came I would go to several lacrosse camps where you would basically wake up, play lacrosse, eat lunch, play lacrosse, eat dinner, and then play some more lacrosse. I can't...

Helen Gurley B. and Me

If there is a straight and sometimes-high-five-throwing male out there who can claim more influence on their life from Helen Gurley Brown, I'd love to meet him. Until then -- when counting this subsect of the population -- I'm proclaiming myself as her absolute number one fan.

It's no secret...

While we all may have recently heard of the rapper previously known as Snoop Dogg, and his mid-life crisis of Rastafarical proportions, fewer of you may have stumbled upon the story of the guy previously known as Alex Mouton and his similar life-altering quest.

Instagram: The Now-Written Rules

Let's just face facts; Instagram rules. Just show me a picture, that's all. Nothing more, nothing less. The perfect...

This fall I was in desperate need of a new cell phone because my 2-year-old device was on its last legs. I decided to get an iPhone, but never got around to pre-ordering. Instead I figured I'd wait until the lines died, which they eventually did, leaving me to roll...
