Breaking News: Obama is Not African-American

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

In a campaign loaded with unusual attacks, I'd thought that the smeariest had to be the suggestion that Obama is the anti-Christ. I'm no professional political pundit, but I just have to think that being the anti-Christ has got to cost you some votes.

(Close runner ups: Obama helped massacre Christians, wants to burn Jews, and of course is treasonous)

But we have a new contender: apparently Obama has been lying when he claims to be an African American. Seriously. Apparently, he's actually an Arab. Subtle, no?

Dear Mr. Limbaugh,

Who are you?

No, I mean really.... is there some reason that you have a radio show and people actually think that what you say has any merit?? Is it your educational status? your political experience? your theatrical background? did you used to be a rocket scientist or brain surgeon or some type of mover/shaker that actually did something that made a difference in this world?

Please shut up or at least say something intelligent next time you decide to make public statement. If Sen. Obama chooses to respect the identities of his father (Africa) and his mother (America) that is his business.

You're talkin' to the wind.

I have the biggest problem with the term African-American to begin with. I am white, yet my parents (both US citizens were working in South Africa (Cape Town) when I was born, I lived in Edgemead for the first 5 years of my life. I am a citizen of South Africa because I was born there, and a citizen of the US because my parents are citizens. I by definition an African-American being born on the African continent, just as an person born in Ireland is Irish-American or a person born in Italy is an Italian-American ect. Yet, someone of African decent is African-American.

I think the whole problem is in America we should've have hyphenated-Americans. Teddy Roosevelt gave a great speech on it. Obama, is American, I am American or South African, I would never refer to myself as African-American or South African-American, my fathers parents are Italian, and he doesn't refer to himself as Italian, he is American, if someone asks if he is Italian, he says he is American of Italian descent.

We need to get rid of these labels and just be American.

Let's get rid of white and black too. We do not refer to other ethnic groups by color. Why is black and white still being used as a descriptor for people? I could go into a diatribe about African American. About how the term came to be used by people who could trace kinship back to Africa. About how in living in a country like America where American history for someone of brown hue was a paragraph or two and always in the context of what was bestowed by a great "white" father. I could go on about how there was a real thirst for history and culture of Africa due to no representation of brown folk in American history and lore. That would be controversial. It would be true, but it would be controversial.

There is no black and white, there is no Chinese, no Italian, Greek, Scandinavian, and Japanese for death cares not. The arbitrary lines that we draw to distinguish do little to distinguish and much to foment conflict and regret. Culture is fine for it has brought us variety in food, language, art, fashion, etc... When culture is used to elevate one over the other, then culture sucks, culture distorts, and culture cheapens the human experience. I embrace all until I am pushed away and even then, I remain empathetic. A desire to be a better manifestation of ones" self should be the indomitable spirit, and not the desire to be a better manifestation of another.

This may come as a shock to you but African-American people do not have to care about what makes you happy or comfortable when they label themselves!

Jeez! Got much white privilege? Yeah, a whole lot!

First, the majority of African-Americans do not have black skin. Like Obama, the majority of African-Americans are mixed-race. Thus, African-Americans come in all shades of culture and a label that reflects origin and identity is more descriptive and affirming.

Second, for there to be a "white" there must be a "yellow," "red" or "black." Thus being African-American takes one out of the white societal game that requires people of other colors to determine identity.

Third, again, what right do you have to question how others identify themselves? If you are happy being "white," great for you. But why should you have a right to label someone else?

Europeans labeled the indigenous people of the Americas "Indians" even though they had names for themselves.

At some point, I wish people like you would grow up and realize that you are being immature and selfish in your need to impose your worldview on others.

Case in point: you have no problems as to how your dad defines himself. Great! Wonderful! Show the same respect to others.

And a Christan said Amen!!
Enough is enough. I'm sick of being called a racist because I have an obligation to my country and my God to let the truth be known. The man 'Obama' allows his children to be raised in a racist church where vial garbage is spewed forth in the name of God. That certainly isn't Christian.
Recently A Staunch Supporter of the NEA told me to look at the 'Metal" of the man. All I can see is mercury. Not even the valuable kind. A man can have many titles but only one Philosophy.

Limbaugh should have been taken off the air ways years ago ,he has made money off his drug addiction and his racist rantings. Sad that intelligent people are so bored they listen to his filfth and garbage.

You know, even Rush's usual crowd will have raised an eyebrow at that one. I think he only convinced about 6 habitual drunkards in bar in Talusa. He's gone way out on the stupid limb with that one.

The other thing that the bigots overlook is that Obama's mother and grandparents, who were major influences in his life, were Caucasian. Being raised in Hawaii where there is such cultural diversity also contributed to his experience. I truly believe that Obama sees all people as equal. . .

where does he think African-Americans came from? Russia?

yeah this is bs.

his was not from arab parts (read northern) of africa.

kenyan's are not arab.

they are african.

his father was not from saudi, or even egypt, or anywhere in north africa, central eastern.

just a load of bs.

i think that is why he hesitated to say exactly what country obama's father was from.

to call him "arab"... is just stupid.

(not that there should be anything wrong with being arab)

Totally absurd. But even if he was of Arab descent... so what? We have many Arab-Americans in the United States that are patriotic and worthy of political office. I thought this was supposed to be about who can lead this nation best, not whose ancestors can best be impugned.

The Republicans must really be afraid Obama is set to win the election due to the numerous outrageous smears and lies they are spreading.

Shame on anyone who believes this ridiculous assault on his citizenship and patriotism. It is insidious.

What is interesting is the person(s) who continuously attack Obamas' character are themselves of questionable reputation. They should ask themselves if they were African American and had their same life experiences would they be where they are now, reeking havoc in a political campaign solely for the purposes of racial priviledge, not because they think McCain or Palin are the better candidates.

Somethings don't warrant a rebuttal, and this is one of them.

P.S. This is the 1st time I've ever thought that the U.S. contains a monolithic group of insane people. I hope it's temporary insanity, and people can regain their bearings before the election.

His father is from Africa and his mother is American, ergo African-American. What's the problem?
