Was Sarah Palin Sent By God to Battle the Anti-Christ?

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

For some time, we've seen the material flowing around the internet arguing that Barack Obama is the anti-Christ or a false Messiah. Now there's a new twist: Sarah Palin is sent by God.

That's the message of this essay by Jim Bramlett, a former official at the Christian Broadcasting Network and Campus Crusade for Christ. I've heard this is being emailed around quite a bit but don't really know how much it's been read. Because it touches on so many interesting themes I'd like to fisk the whole thing (my comments in ital):

Barack, Sarah, and the Bible

Jim Bramlett

Dear friends:

Barack Hussein Obama has taken the nation by storm. From obscurity, with zero executive experience, or much of any kind, he has vaulted into the position of Presidential frontrunner. It is stunning. On the surface, it appears attributable only to his eloquent oratory and his race. But an invisible factor may be a strong spiritual force behind him, causing some people to actually swoon in his presence.

He's setting up the idea that Obama's support is so illogical that it must have a supernatural explanation.

I have been very concerned that he has publicly said that he does not believe Jesus is the only way to heaven. This makes both the Bible and Jesus a liar, and it means that Christ has died in vain. A person cannot be a true Christian who believes that there are other ways of forgiveness, salvation, and eternal life with God. Only Jesus has paid the price for that.

Much attention has come of late to some liberal bloggers mocking Palin's faith. We may have forgotten the aggressive efforts by conservative writers and leaders to challenge Obama's. Some have implied he's a Muslim, other have implied he's a bad Christian or, as James Dobson put it, has "confused theology."

Therefore, there is, indeed, another spirit involved. And this spirit has come into our national life like a flood. Last week at Obama's acceptance speech, that spirit exalted itself in front of a Greek temple-like stage, and to a huge audience like in a Roman arena. Omama was portrayed as god-like. His voice thundered as a god's voice.

This picks up on the Obama as false Messiah meme that had gained serious traction in the Christian community.

At the end, Democratic sympathizer Pastor Joel Hunter gave the benediction and shockingly invited everyone to close the prayer to their own (false) gods. This was surely an abomination, but it was compatible with Obama's expressed theology, and Hunter's leftist leanings.
Hunter, a Republican evangelical, ended his prayer "in Jesus's name" but invited members of the audience to end their prayers according to their own tradition.
God was not pleased.

And God says, "When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him" (Isaiah 59:19).

Enter Governor Sarah Palin. With incredible timing, the very next day, Sarah Palin also appeared out of nowhere. Her shocking selection as John McCain's running mate stunned the world and suddenly took all the wind out of Obama's sails.

She literally seems to have been sent by God to oppose the anti-Christ.

We quickly learned that Sarah is a born-again, Spirit-filled Christian, attends church, and has been a ministry worker.

Note that there's nothing in here about her record as Governor or even the hope that she'll be a maverick or reformer. The entirety of his love for her has to do with her being a Spirit-filled Christian.

Sarah is that standard God has raised up to stop the flood. She has the anointing.

You can tell by how the dogs are already viciously attacking her.

I wrote earlier that Christians will not abandon Palin no matter what comes out because they've defined criticism as being ant-Christian. Therefore the more people criticize her, the more beloved she'll become.

But they will not be successful. She knows the One she serves and will not be intimidated. Back in the 1980s, I sensed that Israel's little-known Benjamin Netanyahu was chosen by God for an important end-time role. I still believe that. I now have that same sense about Sarah Palin.

Today I did some checking and discovered that both her first and last names are biblical words, one in Hebrew the other in Greek: Sarah. Wife of Abraham and mother of Isaac.

In Hebrew, Sarah means "noble woman" (Strong's 8283). Palin.

In Greek, the word means "renewal." (Strong's 3825). A friend said he believes that Sarah Palin is a Deborah. Of Deborah, Smith's Bible Dictionary says, "A prophetess who judged Israel.... She was not so much a judge as one gifted with prophetic command.... and by virtue of her inspiration 'a mother in Israel.'"

Only God knows the future and how she may be used by Him, but may this noble woman serve to bring renewal in the land, and inspiration.

Jim

All extremeist groups use terror as their weapon, Right wing extremists are no different. They are against immigration, but preach the earth is the Lord's -if the earth is the Lord's, doesn't that mean we should share it? They say we are stewards of the earth, yet elect people who do all they can to destroy the earth for profit; They say they are against abortion- but every major educational and social initiative that can help reduce unwanted pregnacies is opposed by them. They say they want to help the poor, yet they overwhelmingly support leaders who rape and exploit not only the poor but the middle class at every opportunity; They comfort each other in their walled off enclaves and in their churches with high steeples, spew intolerance and hatred rendering the church impotent at reaching the hearts and minds of the people. They fall back on the plan of salvation and appropriate it just for themselves. KJV Matthew 8:11-12 "And I say unto you. That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Issac, and Jacob. In the kingdom of heaven. But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." Matthew 8:21 "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven." They are the Anti-Christ.

Look... there is probably no time and no way to convert these people to a 'reality based' politics.
The only solution is to convince the undecided with facts, identify supporters and get out the vote.
If there is any hope of conversion for these people it is confronting the reality of an Obama administration that delivers real benefits for our people, our country and the world rather than an imagined apocalypse.

I love how religious nutjobs in America never bother to be read up on political ideas other than their own weird right wing propaganda or when they read their bible the larger context of it escapes them.

The irony is that Jesus was a socialist. Yet most American Christians talk about socialism as if it was brought to us by Satan himself.

How people like Sarah Palin confused the message of "loving your neighbor" with "cleanse nations by war in the name of God" is beyond me.

What an extremely warped view of Christianity. The Sarah Palin version "pales in" comparison to the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Being humble, having the attitude of a servant, giving to the poor and healing the sick... Not arrogantly attacking your opponent with lies (10 Commandments anyone?), not over-empowering the wealthy to the detriment of the rest of the population, stating that healthcare is a "privilege", etc.

But perhaps the Republicans have their own version of the Bible that corrects the views of Jesus to those that fit with their own ideology.

I've seen very little "Christian" behavior from those claiming to corner the market on the "Jesus crowd".

Don't laugh. I've heard from several different people that they believe Obama is the anti-Christ.

And they're serious.

Who says the Anti-Christ could not be a woman? If I were a believer, she would be the likely candidate to be the anti-Christ. Her form of Christianity is a false one.

And may I add, it is very sexist of Mr. Bramlett to suggest otherwise, unless of course it is actually the First Dude who is the anti-Christ, allowing her to be his front, with his permission.

Any extreme religious fanatisism should be suspect and of great concern. Saying that a war is god's will smacks of calling out to god as they drove the planes into our buildings. Oh that's right. They were praying to the other god.

"I wrote earlier that Christians will not abandon Palin no matter what comes out because they've defined criticism as being ant-Christian."

So... this means Obama won't be voting for himself?

Meant to ask last time, but I forgot to. (Note for those who don't know: Obama is a Christian.)

Careful Mr. Bramlett... people who use religion as a bludgeon to sway the politics of man will have massive karma to repay. And then we have Palin's ministers participating in literal witch hunts and telling parishioners that if they criticize President Bush they are going to Hell. What is wrong with people?

This is exactly why I no longer participate in organized religion. I cannot bear to be around close-minded zealots who believe 100% their way is the only way. It is scary to know that people still think like this. God loves EVERYONE flaws and all. God sent many messengers, not just Jesus! I don't care what you believe but stop trying to force your beliefs on others.

I am a religious mutt. I have ancestors that are Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and Druze. My family does not get into stupid debates about religion because we know that we are ALL going to Heaven.

Wake up people! There is no religious test for the Presidency. There is a separation of Church & State for a reason. We don't get to ignore that just because one faith is in the majority. That won't be the case much longer. Think about how you will feel once Christianity isn't the most popular faith in America.

Now I'm properly ticked off. Time to donate to O/B.

All you guys on this blog seem to be McCain and Pailn bashers. Further your comments on Christianity is sad. I wonder if you guys would have the guts to speak about Islam the way you do about Christianity. You would have been hunted by those Islamists. It's because Christians have been passive, you take the upper hand. I don't subscribe to extreme fundamentalism but would you guys stop ridiculing the name of Christ.
