GOP Pisses Off World; Wins Prize!

Welcome to the new world order where isolationism is as fusty a notion as fairness and balance. Actions on the local level reverberate so globally that even the pissy little nyah-nyah-nyahing which the right wing Republicons persist in using as their chief mode of expression has twanged the world-wide-wire and driven said world to confer upon Obama a Nobel Peace Prize.

An honor, to be sure. But not just for him.

It's also for the American people (a decided majority of 'em, anyway) who, in a spasm of sense, broke the grip of its somnambulist state and elected an articulate, able statesperson, a true and valuable symbol of the American promise and the hope of Democracy.

As the predictable mobs of crypto-racist/sexually repressed obstructionists coagulate around the recipient, the Norwegian Nobel committee has acted unilaterally and struck a blow for the rest of humanity.

The big tent Republicon party, which shelters everyone from flat-earthers to Taitz birthers, from gun-toters to Swift Boaters, in other words every scrap of social flotsam which identifies with the right's disdain for All Things Other, is coming away from its stakes. The kamikaze conservatives thought it prudent to let the grassroots berserkers make headway with their scary ranting and thick-skulled patriotism but realized too late that that strategy has a cannibalistic blow back and now they are, as Edie McClurg says in Planes, Trains and Automobiles: fucked.

Good. Let it be so. For while bestowing laurels upon Obama may strike some as premature, what is long overdue are the consequences for the right's premeditated assault on reason and sanity, consequences which have a satisfying irony.

Conservatives are finally reducing their carbon footprint. And that deserves a prize.

3rd try .... this time, I'll just say thanks again, Mr. Weber. Kudos.

Oh, and does anyone know just why the entertainment industry has adopted the ukulele as THE musical transition from life to death? Just sayin', feels like Don Ho got St Peter's job or somethin'. Not that there's anything wrong with that ....

It comes at great surprise to the GOP that their propaganda that permeates our Media 24/7, doesn't flood the rest of the world too. While they can be assured, with their 91% right wing coverage in our media, overseas where they actually have conversations and print some truths, their lies aren't even registering, let alone convincing anyone.
Nothing like a (pre-mature-perhaps) Nobel Prize to get their attention. That might have been some of the beauty of it...pure genius. Putting the onus on both Obama and the right wing with this Peace Prize was very cogent.
"Oh my gawd, he doesn't even have to do anything and he still wins...what are we to do?" Complain wildly and loud about everything all the time...as usual.
The GOP ship is about to flounder, who has the "rat instinct" to leave the party before they drown? Lets tell them its Darwinian...and they'll decry it...and stay aboard to the end.

Even I was surprised that Obama won the Nobel, but I think what made up for it was how angry, deflated and bitter the other side were just as the week before they were laughing like jackels that Obama failed at getting the olympics here. They are so negative that its actually just backfiring on them. Even if you didnt think Obama deserved the Nobel, in no way is the average person willing to associate with the other side's looney assessments on everything. This goes to show that positive energy combined with civility and reason always conquers fear and hatred.

Seriously....they just need to get over it and start rebranding themselves into a saner and reasonable party that stands for something, instead of against everything the opposition does. They are not winning and it just makes them crazier and crazier. The image of conservatism has been so looked down upon for a while now because of the people they pick to represent who they are. I hope Obama eventually earns that prize to justify the committees decision. Dont let them or the world down!

The entire world is watching America and the Republican Right Wing Extemists and the American Taliban can come up with a simplistic plan that could garner world wide cheers.

The plan would be for them to commit mass suicide and maybe the country as well as the world would be saved.

The republicans and right wingnuts ,right now are feeling the wraft of their stupidity and their hate for PRESIDENT OBAMA and his predency. A few weeks ago they protest the speech MR. PRESIDENT made to school kids, about working hard, and studying hard. Some kept their kids home from school. Can you imagine how those fools are feeling now? lIKE JACKASSES. You have to imagine because they will never admit it. But that's what happens to a$$holes, racists, and stupid people. Something always comes back to show them how out of touch ,and how big an a$$hole they are.

The dolts consider everyone with a different opinion than theirs is a socialist and likewise since the majority of the world hates them then the majority of the world must be socialists.

I just caught the end of the piece on MSNBC but I THINK they just reported that baggers are protesting/rallying outside of the elementary school where the song for Obama was performed during Black History Month, last Feb. These people are sick!

If they can reduce their carbon footprint to the size where it can be drowned in a bathtub, that’s the satisfying irony I seek.

Morris Dees of the Southern Poverty Law Center believes we should combat the ugliness of the right with tolerance, caring and sharing. So, in that spirit, I think we should embrace and recognize the accomplishments of those who are reality-challenged. I tried to come up with a name for the prize and narrowed it down to four choices:

* Faulty Wiring Award
* Reality Escapee Award
* Corrupted Conscience Award
* Gut-Thinkee Award

Nomination Categories:

* Arrogance
* Deception
* Denial
* False Choice
* Faux Outrage
* Fear Inducement
* Homophobia
* Inappropriate Outburst
* Incitement to Violence
* Jingoism
* Oversimplification
* Racism
* Sexism
* Spite
* Swindler Stockholm Syndrome
* Willful Ignorance

The deflated right is crying out for recognition, so let’s give it to them.

You can condense this and everything the wrongwingnuts say to just four things:
Fear
Hate
Ignorance
Greed

I think the conservatives fears are realized. They were hoping that the first black President would stumble and be viewed by the world as so incompetent and weak, that the conservatives could prove that Obama was nothing more than an affirmative action President. Apparently, the rest of the world is quite intrigued with him as well. And even though they are not admitting it, no longer is a white male considered a precursor to having the potential to be a great leader. Too many in the South still consider African Americans inferior. There are many men such as Pat Buchanan who think that white men still are not getting enough props for making the country what it is. Well, duh, when blacks don't have any rights until the 1900's, just how effective can they expect to be? This circular thinking is nuts.

I for one hope that this mindset continues to be in the minority for years to come.

I take great exception to your post. As a man I do not discriminate or hold a predjudice for any other man because of skin color. Just as I would call to task a white man for judging an entire race based on the behavior of a few members of that race I call you to task for judging me based on the fact that I am white and that there is still a minority group of white people who are racists. The very fact that you felt it was neccessary to bring color into this discussion only goes to pointing out your own racism and makes you look small. You should look to your inner self and quit trying to put down others while couching your rhetoric in martyred angst.

Maybe you don't discriminate but there are plenty out there that do, whether one is black, white, red, brown.
I believe that -Ohsnap- was factual in his/her statement and not trying to put anyone down---
"And even though they are not admitting it, no longer is a white male considered a precursor to having the potential to be a great leader."
It is a fact in many parts of this country that even the perception of a black man being President of the United States is not in the realm of possibility for some white people.
What was stated by -ohsnap-are facts not racism.
"Calling someone to task" does not alleviate racism. I believe that you are the one that is bringing up the racist card.

I have a young black female roommate and she cannot understand the comments she hears and the actions that she sees coming from the Repubs or those who claim to be Conservative Christian types. The signs of watermelon on the White house lawn, Rush calling Obama a Man-Child or worst, clapping when America (not Obama) lost its bid for the Olympics, supportive of War over Health Care for fellow Americans, supportive of a Company over its Employees, bad mouthing those less fortunate then U, shooting at signs with Arab people on it or of the initials of a another American on it, going to where the President - ARMED! She states that she does not feel welcomed in the Repubs Big Tent and I can see why.

Mattie, your first two sentences make me very sad.

Later in the post I got it that you were basing your opinion about white men upon those you saw in the media - not _real_ white men you happened to know. (Maybe you just need to meet more of us.)

I feel very sure it's only at most 20% - and probably much less - who feel as you projected upon us all (white men, that is). Please watch your words a bit - and in what forum you use them - or you might end up being perceived as an R yourself, and no, I don't mean Republican.
