As we begin the big skirmish, it becomes clear that the only option for Obama is to take extreme measures. He must become the Surgeon in Chief and cut out the real cancer that has ravaged this country and its once effective and progressive institutions: the cancer known as George Bush and Dick Cheney.

Slice the tumor of their cowardly, avaricious, nation-destroying agenda away cleanly and swiftly and flood the body politic with the kind of Democratherapy that will burn the last seeds of the toxic Republican Revolution out of the bloodstream.

The relentless Repugs thank their false god(s) every day for the short-term memory and the stupefying gullibility of that legion of the lost, their glassy-eyed, xenophobic gang of supporters. Down on their knees the Repuglican overlords go, arms in the air in a group hosannah, marveling aloud, since they don't even have to worry about the consequences of being overheard: "They still buy this crap!" Because the pap the suckers are fed is so lame and watery that it is also as easily and readily disposed of, having never found purchase in anything deeper than that part of the brain that controls knee jerk responses to darkness or a monster under the bed.

Anyone voting for McCain at this point is about as patriotic as Mister Nasty Pants himself, Osama Bin Laden, except without the cozy connections to the Bush family. Their loyalty to their cause borders on real, actual, widespread insanity, the kind of epidemic written about in third rate penny dreadful paperbacks decrying fear and madness of crowds, witch burning, Kristallnacht and other lowpoints in the descent of man. To shunt aside the last 8 years of purposeful mismanagement, inadvertent chaos, intended misdirection, flouting of constitutional law and exploitation of the fear of the citizenry in the merest consideration of electing John McCain is surely an indication that the cancer has spread to the soul and has not responded to any standard treatments. It's time to operate.

IMHO at this point all signs point to Obama/Biden being merely a milder form of the cancer that is Bush/Cheney. Perhaps the disease will moderate a bit if they are elected but don't look or even hope for a cure. The nation is still not ready to consider what it would take to recover.

Well, it certainly doesn't help having Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity spewing their fearmongering of Democrats on a daily basis to millions of listeners and viewers.

It's important to understand the conservative moral belief system -- it's not simply people being suckered. They willingly and happily discount facts that don't comport with their authoritarian idealogy, which goes like this:

* Morality equals obedience to an authority, the inherently good protector from evil who has both the right and the duty to use force (including breaking laws) to command obedience and fight evil.

* Obedience to legitimate authority requires both personal responsibility and discipline.

* Obedience is enforced through punishment.

* A hierarchy of authority is used to maintain order.

* Loyalty is required to maintain the hierarchy.

* Obedience leads to true freedom. The more we obey revealed truth, the more we become liberated.

* Prosperity indicates discipline which is moral, since discipline is required to obey moral laws and whatever is required by those in authority.

* If you are not prosperous, you are not disciplined nor moral and are deserving of poverty.

The most interesting, and hopefully refreshing part of a new Obama administration will indeed be the people he "floods the body politic" with. To have competent, intelligent, qualified people representing us, and working for this country and what it stands for, will be a welcome change. I'd love more than anyone to see Bush, Cheney et all get what's coming to them , but at this pont I have to agree with you Mr. Weber, the "cancer" needs to be eliminated and thrown into trash heap of history.

Keep fanning the flames, Steven! As usual, right on the money! I am convinced that this country will not survive four more years of the neocons; at least, not in the form for which it was intended. Our education system is now ranked 26th in the world, our healthcare system stinks, real people are having to make decisions about food, gas, and their kids' necessities that they shouldn't have to make. (Those kitchen tables are getting a real workout these days!) Obama and Biden get it; why doesn't the rest of the electorate?

I am appalled and horrified at the idea of HRC supporters voring for McSame rather than Obama; what in the hell are they thinking?

Love your comments, Stephen, and subscribe to them. I too can't for the life of me understand how anyone in his or her right mind (pun intended) can even entertain the thought of a McSame presidency.

I recently had this argument with my brother, and "stood there stupefied" (credit to Brian Hackett) as he shouted that Obama just wants to TAX EVERYBODY!

I've tried to educate him, but he just shouts me down, getting louder and louder until we're both embarrassed at his behavior. Typical repuglican.
