Spin Art (A Small Minded Excursion Into Ideologically Driven Creativity)

What's Your Reaction:

"My favorite low-brow bromide is that Sarah Palin "terrifies the Left." The truth is she (and her ilk) terrify all sensible, thoughtful people on the Left and on the Right, let alone every civilized nation on Earth. That a personality less qualified, less able, less educated should ascend so rapidly (and clearly with the help of an opportunistic media on both sides of the ideological divide) speaks to the depths this nation has sunk in terms of selecting viable, wise leadership. She is a Charlie's Angel's Republican wet dream, the bodice ripping heroine of all good Christian conservative chicken hawks. Terrified? You betcha."

I have tried to understand her policies and plan, but I never hear any specific ideas and yet millions of Americans would consider electing her to be the POTUS.
What frightens me more about her is that she is quite mean and nasty. When she was inciting hatred towards President Obama during the election at rallies I was shocked, yet the people at the rallies, many self proclaimed Christians, cheered this type of speech on.....
Am I the only one that sees this nasty, mean spirited side?

Sarah Palin is to the Left, what Anita Bryant is to the gay rights movement. Anita did more to galvanize the gay movement than anyone in their own camp ever dreamed of accomplishing. Anita single handedly brought the gay agenda to the national attention and most Americans did not like what they saw in her. Today, most gay people recongize the important role she played in helping to liberate them. Sarah plays a similiar role among most Americans. The more we see of her, the more we reject her pro-corporate, anti-people agenda. She helps us focus on what is wrong in this country today. I have no doubt that in 20 years, Sarah will be the icon of the left the way Anita is now the icon of the gay movement.

Therefor, I love her! Go Sarah go! The more you are out there, the more hope we the people have against corporate fascism.

Left afraid of Sarah? Absolutely!

The fact that some Americans cannot see this empty hypocritycal bimbo for what she is, is FRIGHTENING!

How many actually buy the BS is irrelevant, a thousand, as well as two, is too many. It is scary that there are people in here, presumably voters, who fail to see through her shtick. But again, the same crowd enjoys professional wrestling, and thinks that the Generals are due to beat the Globetrotters...
Yeah, it is scary!

Saying more with less is art. Weber has summed her up precisely and profoundly. There is no doubt to me that much, if not most, of her ascendancy belies sexual fantasy cloaked by the self-delusion "conservatism."

Study by Benjamin Edelman - 2009

“... subscriptions [to online pornography] are also more prevalent in states where surveys indicate conservative positions on religion, gender roles, and sexuality. In states where more people agree that “Even today miracles are performed by the power of God” and “I never doubt the existence of God,” there are more subscriptions to this service. Subscriptions are also more prevalent in states where more people agree that “I have old-fashioned values about family and marriage” and “AIDS might be God’s punishment for immoral sexual behavior.” Survey results come from the Pew Value Surveys (1987–2007 combined dataset).”

In fact, self-denial is a powerful thing...
Why DO most shockers(be it in a restroom, some geographically misplaced Appalachian trail, or what not), in the political sphere, come from the Right-Wing representatives?
I know what my answer would be, but I wonder how many on Fixed News, and among the GOP would even dare to consider this question.

Yes. One's politics, after all, is a reflection of underlying character. It's too bad our society and MSM are too infantile to be able to talk about this.

people either love or hate Sarah Palin. There is no middle ground, and it is a rare person that doesn't have an opinion about her. You love her because she is so so sarcastic and snarky and directs all of that negativity at the left or you hate her because she is so devoid of ideas and positive input and the right thinks she is some sort of god for being like them....gosh , typing that last statement made me realize the intelligence level of the masses of the rightwing base

Chee...if Sarah is so bad & so dumb, why do so many "smart" & "good" people spend most of their waking hours thinking, writing, and talking about her? She provide bit of sparkle & excitement to their boring lives?

Because we're so apalled at the sheer gullibility of our fellow citizens?

Because she's like a train wreck and we can't look away?

Because we really love our country and fear for what it is becoming?

Because she's like a train wreck and we can't look away?

Because... well, you get the idea.

when I hear the accusation that "the left is afraid of Sarah" my jaw drops every time. However, what is really frightening is that much of the right really believes it is true - not just mouthing words, but REALLY believes it. I find myself thinking "is this person really that stupid?".... sadly the answer is "yes".
09:18 AM on 02/10/2010
It only seems that the Left is afraid of Palin. Funny, on the face of it, but not reality. She has no real chance of being elected to any office; both the Right and the Left know that.

What is causing the Left to tremble is that she is the face of the revolt among the populace; the fly-over middle America, the real working people (and those who would love to be working). The 70 percent of the population who poll "do nothing" or "start over" on health insurance reform. The 80 or so percent who are happy with their health care arrangements. The 70 percent or so who understand that Cap and Trade is just another tax. The 70 percent or so who are holding their collective breath waiting for the next terrorist attack and know how poorly the country is prepared for it. The 50 percent or so of Independents, declared or otherwise, who have buyer's remorse for their presidential vote. The Middle Left who feels their lives have been hijacked by Progressive nee Socialist schemes. The Far Left who feels their Jones/Wright/Ayers/Obama revolution has been sold to the pharmaceutical companies.

"How's that Hopey-Changey thing workin' out for ya" really stings, and the Left is lashing out in embarrassment.

It's not just the left either- Mark Halperin said she's "flailing" and he's been a Palin brown-noser of the highest order. If you don't think suggesting the president bomb Iran in order to increase his popularity isn't terrifyingly stupid and irresponsible, then you are part of the problem.

Hardball" host Christ Matthews harshly criticized Sarah Palin for her comments that President Obama could increase his re-election chances by bombing Iran. Matthews called this line of thinking "frightening":

She's frightening. Mark, that is frightening stuff. Frightening. First of all, president don't declare war. Anybody knows that in high school. Matthews went on to say that Palin "has nothing going on mentally... I'd be afraid of her because I think she's an empty vessel ready to be filled by ideology she doesn't understand. And that is really scary."

Sometimes the best writing is that which has the fewest words. Weber has summed her up precisely and proufoundly. There is do doubt to me that much of her popularity belies sexual fantasy cloaked in deep "conservatism."

P.S. Even the picture he has shown of her reveals what is really underneath her mask.

The Photoshop work only reveals his prejudices and fantasies. It has little to do with who she is.

Or did you really think it was some sort of x-ray?

While the thought of Sarah as POTUS is terrifying, her prominence in Republican politics is really a blessing in disguise, because it lays bare the cynicism of the Republican party. And while we haven't yet recovered from the nightmare, they're nightmare isn't over.

I've never been afraid of Palin herself. She has proven to be as inept and incapable of actually doing the hard work of becoming a leader, as I always knew she would. Anyone who believes she's capable of the stamina and focus to run a nearly two year presidential campaign, hasn't been paying attention.
What does frighten me, is the level of ignorance, bigotry and willingness to back the very institutions and policies that have held the average American back for decades, she has exposed. When I saw average working class and poor people in DC protesting IN FAVOR of health insurance companies, I wept for this nation. Never in a million years could I have imagined such an inanity.
Palin is just a symptom of the mess this country is in. She will continue to be the cough, the runny nose and the fever, but the actual disease is the already elected bought and sold shills of the corporate swine flu, that is rapidly metastasizing, infecting and threatening the very life of this nation.
