Susan Boynton is Associate Professor of Historical Musicology at Columbia University. She writes on medieval Christian liturgy, chant and monasticism, as well as on the history of childhood. She has written two books: "Shaping a Monastic Identity: Liturgy and History at the Imperial Abbey of Farfa, 1000-1125" (2006) and "Silent Music: Medieval Song and the Construction of History in Eighteenth-Century Spain" (2011). She has coedited volumes of essays on the abbey of Cluny, music and childhood, young singers of sacred music, and the Bible in the Middle Ages.
