We've seen the great influence that shows like Mad Men and Downton Abbey have had on fashion; now get ready for another fashion trend invasion.

Baz Luhrmann's rendition of The Great Gatsby doesn't debut until December of this year, but we're already seeing the fateful tale's influence on the catwalk. This week, New Zealander Johanna Johnson unveiled her "Luxor" collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Australia -- apparently she was cherry picked by MB, joining designers like Narciso Rodriguez and Monique Lhuillier who have presented in previous years. Echoing those decadent days past with a nouveau twist, Johnson's latest collection danced down the catwalk, a swirl of Swarovski crystals oozing with Art Deco touches.

While successful down under, the Australian-based Johnson was still relatively unknown in the United States -- that is until Mad Men's Christina Hendricks poured her sexy self into one of Johnson's designs at last year's Primetime Emmy Awards. Within moments of Hendricks answering the omnipresent red carpet question, "Who are you wearing?" Johnson's site crashed due to the onslaught of traffic.

Now, Hollywood stylists are buzzing about the designer, and her handmade creations are making their mark stateside. Kim Kardashian wore one of her gowns to the White House Correspondents' Dinner last weekend, and Maya Rudolph was named one of the Best Dressed ladies of the night when she donned a Johanna Johnson aubergine number to this year's Oscars.

Fortunately for us, Johnson is about to set up shop in the U.S. in New York and in London before the end of 2012 . In the meantime, if you want to get your hands on some of her frocks, you can -- just hit her shop online.

Johanna Johnson's collection is distinctively reflective of the 1930's, not the roaring 20's or "Gatsby Wear" as you have coined it. Styles from the 1930's, age of the "screen sirens" were a response from the nation's cry for a more modest type of dress than the 1920's. Thus, the hemlines became longer, the waistline came back, and a longer, slimmer look was favored. Johanna Johnson's gowns are also cut on the bias, which wasn't first invented/until 1927.

Back in the early 1970's there was a "Gatsby" movie starring Robert Redford and a bug-eyed Mia Farrow, and fashion magazines were all predicting that The Gatsby Look would sweep the land. The Gatsy Look (as seen through the eyes of designer Theodora Van Runkle) was off-white on off-white on off-white, but it never swept the land.

It's considered the roaring 20's look and that would be great if they brought it back..

Of coarse it's not exactly gatsby i do agree, but alot of new designers see little things from then and let their creativity run with it . Yes not everyone can afford them thats where customers use bits and pieces and come up with knockoffs.

Very pretty. But, can these things be worn during the day to work or lunch?

There is nothing "Gatsby' about these designs! Some of it is very pretty though.

I've always said that all retail industries fear two words. The first is "No." As in "No, I refuse to pay that ridiculous price. The second word is "Patience". By this I mean if you are patient, everything eventually drops in price by huge amounts.

Just wait. In 2 years you will find "Gatsby" style clothing at your local Goodwill for 5 bucks.

I love this country. The wealthy's greed always ends up as the real Americans bargain....

LOL!!!

The designers bring it out and the fashion wave is followed by others so we can all wear it without the cost of the originals. Couture does not ever end up at Good Will. Ebay or consignment.

I don't see much in these particular phtos that speak to Gatsby style. However I love the authenticl Gatsby era fashion and would love to see it become popular and available.

Right.... these pictures show nothing of Gatsby styles whatsoever.
