(2) Comments | Posted August 21, 2015 | 4:32 PM

A demagogue is defined thusly: "a political leader who seeks support by appealing to popular desires and prejudices rather than by using rational argument." Sound familiar?

In watching the Morton Downey train wreck documentary last night, I realized that he has a lot in common with the demagogue du...

Too Old to Travel

(0) Comments | Posted July 20, 2015 | 1:29 PM

You've heard about "too big to fail?" Well I am now potentially "too old to travel." I am somewhere between "fifty and Death"...which I believe was said by Auntie Mame. If she didn't say it, she should have. And I travel a lot.

Last night was the proverbial "trip...

The Truth About 'The Interview'

(7) Comments | Posted January 3, 2015 | 10:30 AM

I was a television comedy writer of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Bob Newhart, Maude and other 'quality' shows... so they were called. I also had two Top Ten Movies of the Week, all credits mentioned to give me some bonfides for my review of 'The Interview.'

It is the...

What Would You Do?

(0) Comments | Posted July 23, 2014 | 12:50 PM

There is a TV show called "What Would You Do?" It shows people in circumstances that require others to step in, intervene, do what is right. Some people do. Others walk away.

I always wonder what I'd do. Since I am rather feisty, I usually would step up and get...

Women Attacking Women

(1) Comments | Posted December 6, 2013 | 11:29 AM

Wow! I am writing this as I lie bruised and beaten by another woman in a radio interview show.
This goes under the heading "no good deed goes unpunished."

A friend and journalist who had written about me in a fabulous book about the women writers of

Top 10 Turkey's of 2013

(2) Comments | Posted November 27, 2013 | 10:59 AM

A turkey is a good thing to eat, but a bad thing to be called. It's got the connotation of "loser"
of failure, of a protein "lemon." So here are my Top 10 Turkey's of this year.

Number 10. George Zimmerman. He was arrested again, and again and again....

Mary Richards and I Made it After All!

(15) Comments | Posted May 13, 2013 | 6:54 PM

I was one of the original writers of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show." It was like starting on top and as I often say, downhill after that for the next twenty years of a career. Actually, the career was good all the way through, but the experience on "Mary" was...

Don't Hate Me Because I'm... Beautiful, Fat, Young

(5) Comments | Posted March 20, 2013 | 6:40 PM

Lately there have been a lot of articles criticizing three young women in the media. They are usually over the top, almost hate filled and one wonders why the animus? Like the old commercial said, "Don't Hate Me Because I'm Beautiful" which appealed to women not to be jealous of...

Arias vs. Apple

(19) Comments | Posted February 21, 2013 | 4:00 PM

Well, today I finally had my media meltdown! It was a long time coming. But today's myriad of
activities I had to accomplish led to the apotheosis of this particular bombardment/nightmare.

First of all, I am not good on new media. (I am not as bad as the older...

I'd Rather Stay Sick, Thanks

(4) Comments | Posted January 27, 2013 | 4:04 PM

The other day I was sick in bed and sort of channel surfing, letting the TV pass the time for me. Eyes were too runny to read! Okay, okay, I was just too lazy and feeling sorry for my cold and congested self.

I noticed something that I'd sort of...

Why I Lie About My Age

(10) Comments | Posted December 11, 2012 | 1:38 PM

In the last few years... ok, ok, in the last few decades, I've lied about my age. Lately, I've taken to the cute or coy or annoying phrase that I think Auntie Mame said, "I'm between 50 and death!"
(If it wasn't Auntie Mame, it should have been.)

Why I Haven't Remarried... Maybe

(9) Comments | Posted November 26, 2012 | 1:41 PM

I've been divorced a very long time. I've dated over 500 men. (Told you it's been a long time!)
And I've recently figured out a possible reason. I watch too many soap operas! Really. I think that could be it. Discuss.

First of all, I've always been a freelance...

Ads I Don't Want to See

(11) Comments | Posted November 20, 2012 | 1:54 PM

I confess. I watch way too much TV. I have some excuses. One, I was a TV sitcom writer, so I'm just trying to stay abreast. Two, I do some reviews on my radio show. Three... oh let's just face it, I have no life.

And now, I see there...

You know those old sayings, "Never play cards with a guy named Doc," "Never play pool with a guy named Fats" and "Never eat at a place called 'Mom's'"?

Well, if I may, I'd like to add a rule or two to those in the arena of infidelity. There is...
