Yes, I know. Who doesn't know about how woooonderful this particular Four Seasons property is? Next to the Four Seasons in Hong Kong, there is no other tip of the top hotel in this group (others are great to good to mediocre) But here's why I'm writing about it .. it is very expensive - the top of the rack rate range for a city hotel. If you have the budget and are looking for a truly stellar experience, ambiance, perfection service and one of the best locations in the City of Lights - The Four Seasons Georges V is the one to book.
A much-coveted position, steps from the Champs Elysées, top-notch service and palatial interiors... Beloved of well-heeled travellers and Parisians alike. One of the aspects that make such a Grand Dame worth it ...the incredibly knowledgeable, uber connected concierges. These talents can pretty much make anything happen in Paris and its environs. Hard to put a value on that service!
Interiors are full of marble floors, pale, Parisian colour schemes, 17th-century tapestries and antiques. Traditional décor is complemented by modern amenities, subtly integrated so as not disturb the old-world effect of the crystal chandeliers, elaborate fabrics and wonderfully high ceilings.
What bothered me? What bothers most travelers whom I know that stay at the best properties around the world...Um, a relatively simple breakfast 140 EURO? Disposable swimsuits in the spa for a 19 EURO charge? And the kicker: WiFi is not complimentary here. All of the prior has just got to change. Why insult your clientele? Instead, provide coffee or tea and a petit panier of breads & croissants; of course include WiFi and please don't charge for extra for a little item like a disposable paper bathing suit!
Back to what's very positive -- A plethora of impressive features, from the two-Michelin star cuisine, to the excellent spa and bijoux indoor pool surrounded by a mural of Versailles . Children are welcomed with mini amenities, special toiletries and children's menus in the restaurants, however, there's also a babysitting service if Mom and Dad want a dinner à deux.
The flowers - over 9,000 a week arranged, displayed and adorned throughout. Their now-famous American floral artist is copied the world over.
Many of the rooms have terraces, although if you're here for business, the all-encompassing Parisian views might prove too distracting... Luckily, there are meeting rooms, secretarial services and even a Japanese translator to help you concentrate - and the Presidential Suite even has its own office (and gym when you want a different kind of workout).
Tip: If you've not been to any of chef Christian Constant's restaurants, there are three in a row just across the river in the 7th arrondissement (a lovely 20 minute walk) My favorite: Café Constant for simple, French bistro fare http://www.cafeconstant.com/1.aspx)
