After a historic run as an oilman and as founder and chairman of BP Capital Management, T. Boone Pickens, in an unprecedented move, put it all on the line to create the most comprehensive solution to the energy crisis in America. In July 2008, Pickens launched an ambitious, self-funded grass-roots campaign, The Pickens Plan, which is a movement to finally end this country’s crippling dependence on imported oil.

For decades Pickens has been the go-to-person on the economy and energy issues -- an expert on oil, gas and other kinds of energy. He put his wealth and experience behind his ideas and created this plan, to help fix the economy, clean up the environment and strengthen national security. To sell the plan to America he took out print and television ads and crisscrossed the country speaking to energy and political leaders as well as just plain folks.

He has been a frequent media presence. In a ten-day span in October 2008, he was featured on 60 Minutes, Meet the Press and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. At the same time he was meeting with business and political leaders across the spectrum including President Obama who has repeatedly and publicly supported Picken’s ideas.

The list of government officials who have endorsed the Pickens Plan is impressive: 14 Governors, 7 US Senators, 52 US Representatives, 184 Mayors, 155 State House and 76 State Senators. His Pickens Plan website, Pickensplan.com, is ground zero for his efforts as almost one and one-half million Americans have signed up on the website to be members of his New Energy Army. His video blog, “Boone-cam,” captures his meetings and town halls and chronicles his progress for the Pickens faithful.

Pickens latest campaign initiative is to highlight the amount of oil we are importing every month. These numbers show Americans how many dollars are leaving the country to buy foreign oil; money that could be put to use to build schools and roads and infrastructure. The dollars that could make America an energy independent nation!

Natural Gas Autos Can Help

Posted November 10, 2009 | 12:22 PM (EST)

It is refreshing to see in Washington, D.C., legislation boasting broad, bipartisan support. One such bill is the New Alternative Transportation to Give Americans Solutions Act -- H.R. 1835 in the House and S. 1408 in the Senate.

There is a finite amount of oil available in the world. It...

Last week the Department of Energy (DoE) released a list of 25 projects under the Clean Cities program that will be funded with nearly $300 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Of those, 19 included plans to develop alternative fuel and compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquified natural...

Some people are of the opinion that I jump-started my plan to end our country's addiction to foreign oil on a whim. I may have launched the Pickens Plan in July 2008, but the truth is our lack of a national energy plan has been worrying me for most of...

Over a year ago, I launched the Pickens Plan with a single goal in mind: to end America's addiction to foreign oil. It's been a long 13 months, and I'm not saying this because I've spent $60 million of my own money to open people's eyes to this problem. I'm...

The highly respected analytics firm, Stratfor, began its report of a recent survey of natural gas reserves in the United States this way:

In 2006, natural gas production in the United States appeared to be in permanent decline. Domestic production had flattened out below the 2002 peak of 693 billion...

I've always said that the most important quality of a good leader is that you've got to be willing to make a decision. Too often, people fall victim to what I call the "ready-aim-aim-aim-aim" syndrome. Everything has got to be absolutely perfect. The truth is sometimes you've got to be...

I'm a pretty straightforward guy. That's the way I run my businesses. That's the way I live my life. And if you've ever heard me speak then you know that's the way I talk. But when you call it like you see it, some people always seem to hear something...

Stop Worrying About World Crude Supplies

Domestic natural gas supplies will replace our need for foreign oil. Independent studies continue to show that America's natural gas reserves are sufficient to meet all of our needs for well over 100 years.

We should protect America's interests by making a national commitment to replacing our need for foreign...
