T. Boone Pickens
GET UPDATES FROM T. Boone Pickens

After a historic run as an oilman and as founder and chairman of BP Capital Management, T. Boone Pickens, in an unprecedented move, put it all on the line to create the most comprehensive solution to the energy crisis in America. In July 2008, Pickens launched an ambitious, self-funded grass-roots campaign, The Pickens Plan, which is a movement to finally end this country’s crippling dependence on imported oil.

For decades Pickens has been the go-to-person on the economy and energy issues -- an expert on oil, gas and other kinds of energy. He put his wealth and experience behind his ideas and created this plan, to help fix the economy, clean up the environment and strengthen national security. To sell the plan to America he took out print and television ads and crisscrossed the country speaking to energy and political leaders as well as just plain folks.

He has been a frequent media presence. In a ten-day span in October 2008, he was featured on 60 Minutes, Meet the Press and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. At the same time he was meeting with business and political leaders across the spectrum including President Obama who has repeatedly and publicly supported Pickens' ideas.

The list of government officials who have endorsed the Pickens Plan is impressive: 14 Governors, 7 US Senators, 52 US Representatives, 184 Mayors, 155 State House and 76 State Senators. His Pickens Plan website, Pickensplan.com, is ground zero for his efforts as almost 2 million Americans have signed up on the website to be members of his New Energy Army. His video blog, “BooneCam,” captures his meetings and town halls and chronicles his progress for the Pickens faithful.

Pickens latest campaign initiative is to highlight the amount of oil we are importing every month. These numbers show Americans how many dollars are leaving the country to buy foreign oil; money that could be put to use to build schools and roads and infrastructure. The dollars that could make America an energy independent nation!

It's Time to Get on American Resources

The U.S. is producing a lot more oil than it did just a few years ago. Yet the price at the pump hasn't dropped a single penny. Why not? Because we import so many billions of dollars worth of OPEC oil that we end up paying global prices.

There's only...

Getting America the energy plan it deserves has always been the chief goal of the Pickens Plan. A lot of what needs to be done requires one simple thing: Leadership. But there's plenty of red tape that needs to be cut, and that's what I'm talking about in this video...

When It Comes to the World's Oil Supply, There Is No Free Market

Whenever I bring up the importance of getting America the energy plan it deserves, someone always says, "Boone, let's not pick winners and losers. Let's let the market decide."

There's only problem with that statement. When it comes to the world's oil supply, there is no free market. OPEC...

It's been almost five years since we set out to get America the energy plan it deserves. One thing hasn't changed: the need for aggressive and effective energy leadership in Washington. For the last four decades, Republicans and Democrats alike have fallen short in this regard. Long story short --...

In Article I, Section 8, the United States Constitution grants Congress the "Power To," among other things, "provide for the common Defense and general Welfare of the United States"; "regulate Commerce with foreign Nations"; and "lay and collect Taxes."

One billion dollars every day.

That's how much money we're sending overseas to fund our dangerous and growing addiction to OPEC oil.

This year, I've spent a lot of time talking about natural gas, and the need to tap into everything domestic--from nuclear to natural gas, from wind...

September 14 is OPEC's -- the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries -- 50th birthday. OPEC was formed in 1960 by Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. Since then it has expanded to 12 countries, but its goal is the same: To influence and, if necessary, manipulate the price of...
