LONG BEACH, Calif. — Move over, it's Saturday night at Club Bounce and people are bouncing onto the dance floor in a big, big way.
These are big, big people, all dressed to the nines and many tipping the scales at 250, maybe 300 pounds.
That's because this expansive nightclub a couple blocks from the Pacific Ocean, with its flashing lights, friendly atmosphere and wall-rattling hip-hop sounds, caters specifically to fat people.
That's right, fat people. Not just any fat people, either, but fat people who are proud to call themselves fat people. People who joke that they are part of the new Fat is Phat movement.
"Self-conscious? No! Not at all," laughs Monique Lopez, a curvaceous woman of 23 as she arrives in a tight, black dress and heels. "I was like, 'I'm going to Club Bounce tonight. I'm going to wear my shortest skirt.'" (Which she did.)

I just had an absurdly Kafka-esque experience with Delta Airlines in Atlanta that involved missed connections, a seeming tour of the bowels of the airport, and some of the worst customer service ever.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — An arrest report says a Georgia man caused a flight to make an unscheduled stop in Tennessee after he chanted Bible verses and kicked and flailed.
Authorities said Paul Marchuk III was under evaluation Wednesday in Tennessee a day after a Delta airliner headed to Atlanta from Seattle had to stop in Nashville. An arrest report says the 22-year-old began talking loudly and touching other passengers.
The report says the man from Canton, Ga., also wouldn't let a fellow passenger use the bathroom and told her that "his blood would be on her."
Six of the 178 passengers then helped a flight attendant subdue Marchuk about 15 minutes before the plane landed.
He has been charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Officials say he doesn't have an attorney.

LOS ANGELES — Joe Torre says he doesn't plan to manage the Los Angeles Dodgers after his contract expires.
"I have one year on my contract and I don't anticipate it being more than that," he said Tuesday, two days before the Dodgers open the NLCS against Philadelphia.
However, he noted, "I've said that before and my wife doesn't believe me at all."
The 69-year-old manager is in the middle of a three-year deal he signed nearly two years ago after 12 seasons guiding the New York Yankees. The Dodgers are 179-145 with two consecutive NL West titles under Torre.
His 83 postseason victories are more than any other manager in major league history, and his 14 consecutive playoff appearances as a manager are tied with Atlanta's Bobby Cox (1991-2005).

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A Delta airliner headed to Atlanta from Seattle diverted to Nashville, Tenn., after a disturbance. No one was hurt.
Nashville International Airport spokeswoman Emily Richard says passenger Paul Marchuk III was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
Delta spokesman Anthony Black in Atlanta said a passenger became unruly Tuesday afternoon and was removed by local police, but he had no further specifics. The Boeing 757 with 178 passengers and a six-person crew flew on to Atlanta where it landed some 1 1/2 hours late.
WSMV-TV in Nashville reported that a passenger had to be subdued by other passengers after he began quoting Bible passages. Richard said she had no information about that.

ATLANTA — A passenger rights advocate accused Delta Air Lines Inc. in a federal lawsuit Tuesday of conspiring with a Virginia company to obtain hacked e-mails from her computer to help them derail her efforts to protect air travelers from lengthy tarmac delays and other inconveniences.
The suit, filed by Kate Hanni of FlyersRights.org in U.S. District Court in Houston, seeks at least $11 million in damages and a jury trial.
A spokesman for the world's biggest airline operator, Trebor Banstetter, denied that Delta hacked Hanni's e-mail account. He says Delta can't comment further on the lawsuit.
"Obviously, the idea that Delta would hack into someone's e-mail is clearly without merit," Banstetter said in an e-mail to The Associated Press.
Hanni and her group have been a thorn in the side of the airline industry, pushing Congress to enact a passenger bill of rights at a time when airlines are suffering from big revenue declines thanks to weak demand for air travel.

WASHINGTON — The Treasury Department says two large investment funds have raised the minimum amounts needed to begin purchasing toxic assets from banks, finally launching this part of the government's financial rescue effort.
Treasury says Invesco Ltd. and the TCW Group Inc. both cleared the $500 million target to begin operations to purchase toxic assets.
They are among nine firms that received initial approval to participate in the program earlier this year. Treasury said it expected more firms would be cleared to begin operations soon.
The goal of the program is to rid banks of bad loans so they can resume more normal lending, which is key for sustaining any economic recovery.

The St. Louis Cardinals missed their first chance to win the NL Central. Now, they can clinch it on Thursday without even stepping on the diamond.
Houston rookie Bud Norris shut out St. Louis for the second time and the Astros delayed the Cardinals' division championship celebration for at least another day with a 3-0 win on Wednesday night.
The magic number for St. Louis dropped to one when the Cubs lost in Milwaukee before this game ended. But Norris (6-3) pitched six shutout innings and Jose Valverde tossed a scoreless ninth for his 24th save.
"They are one win away from clinching this thing, but we definitely wanted to give them a fight," Norris said. "I think we did."
The Astros ended the fourth and sixth innings with double plays as the Cardinals continued to have problems with Norris. The right-hander won his major league debut in St. Louis on Aug. 2, allowing two hits in seven shutout innings.
