The rescheduled, heavily cut, and seemingly dumped January release may look and feel like both a punchline and a 'why they hate us' representation of everything wrong with popcorn filmmaking. But unlike certain re-imagined fairy-tales, it didn't cost $200 million. It cost just $50 million.

Zaki's Review: A Good Day to Die Hard

At a breezy 97 minutes, the one thing you can't say about Good Day to Die Hard is that it overstays its welcome. Also, once you jettison the need for things like "drama" and "character development" it becomes a not-unpleasant way to while away an hour-and-a-half.

Review: A Good Day to Die Hard Dies Badly...

A Good Day to Die Hard is a terrible film, one of the very worst theatrical movies I have ever seen.  It's willfully stupid, lacking in basic character chemistry and narrative discipline, officially turning John McClane into a borderline insane anti-social lunatic.

Movie Review: A Good Day to Skip Die Hard 5

According to box-office pundits, A Good Day to Die Hard will be the big box-office winner this holiday weekend. If the predictions hold true, this film confirms the conventional wisdom: People want what's familiar, no matter how hackneyed and repetitive.

Remember Bruce Willis' Singing Career?

As a society, we love Bruce Willis (even if his current film, A Good Day To Die Hard, is going to test that love a bit), which is why, as a society, we have conveniently forgotten Willis' foray into the recording industry. In 1987, Willis was a year away from true international stardom with Die Hard, but he was still an extremely popular man due to his work on the television show Moonlighting. That was the year he released his album, The Return of Bruno.

ReThink Review: A Good Day to Die Hard -- Killing a Classic

Instead of stone-faced bodybuilders or martial arts experts, Die Hard had John McClane, an everyman New York cop with only street smarts and a sense of humor on his side who seemed as surprised as anyone to be an action hero.

Why Is John McClane Invincible Now?

Now, in A Good Day to Die Hard, there's a scene about 45 minutes into the movie in which McClane (along with his son, played by Jai Courtney, whom I did enjoy in this role) finds himself, once again, in a high-rise building. A helicopter is firing bullets into the room that the McClanes are in, so McClane and his son run at top speed toward the windows, break through, and jump into infinity. The two then crash though scaffolding at a high rate of speed (scaffolding that it's hard to believe they were aware existed), eventually falling into a chute of some kind and then landing safely on the ground without harm. McClane didn't think twice about this decision; there was no anguish at the thought of dying. He didn't even bother looking for a fire hose to swing from.
