Manhattan is awash with TV folks in town for the upfronts, the annual ritual in which the networks present their fall schedules to advertisers in hopes of wooing big bucks. It is too early to tell which network will be the big winner, but this year there is a clear loser: gay characters.
Girls is one of the funniest, grittiest, and most endearing shows I have ever watched. Lena Dunham is my hero. And that is why it pains me to say this: The season premiere was a big, messy, awkward letdown.
Of course I know who Scott Evans is. He's the kid brother of Chris Evans and has made a name for himself in his own right with a memorable turn on One Life to Live. I just don't know him. But try telling that to Facebook.
