Let's resolve that 2013 will be the point in history where we no longer offer the imprimatur of respectability to the notion that a person's sexual orientation is something to be shamed and condemned, nor to anyone who promotes that notion.

Their resolution is gay bashing at its worse, because it implies that in the end God, too, is a gay basher who will sentence the unrepentant homosexual to an eternity in hell. Ultimately, the Southern Baptist resolution is an act of what I call "holy terrorism."

For comedy I turn to Christian bigots, but they have let me down of late. What's missing from the current crop, what today's anti-gay preachers, with their infantile depictions of "poo-poo pansies," fail to provide, is camp.

It may be true that the "death to gays" pastors and their followers represent a tiny portion of evangelicals. But a much larger group of white evangelicals is not speaking out against the people making claims in the name of their religious faith.

These consequences of anti-gay Christian fundamentalism include suffering children, sons who hang themselves, older brothers who vanish from the family, distant grandchildren, and lonely deathbeds. All this, they tell us, is done out of love. How much worse could hate be, then?
