Everyone enters the world in the middle of great events -- not all of them good. We can choose to embrace our lives or whine loudly about our circumstances. Or we can muster the courage to imagine a different life, a life that has yet to exist.
Ostensibly a documentary, it's meant as an eye-opening deconstruction of Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. Director Rodney Ascher lets a group of obsessives spout off about their theories of what Kubrick really meant. The only thing they don't suggest is that Kubrick is talking to them over the radio.
As a longtime fellow of The Explorers Club, I sometimes forget what a storied institution I am part of. Recently, though, I was reminded squarely of what the Club really represents.
