What a great rune to cast just after the autumnal equinox, the second harvest sabbat! Representing the close of a full day's work, this metaphor for celebrating the culmination of a cycle and regrouping to begin another is very appropriate.
There is no "alignment of the planets" or any other possible gravitational effects of the equinoxes that would make eggs do anything weird. The only things that are weird are the nuts who claim that these dates have magical powers.
The fall, when the long hard labor of the growing and reaping seasons is finally finished and when the storehouses are as full as they will ever be, is an especially appropriate time to begin the year.
This is my equinox prayer for us: May we know the depth and width of the patterns that hold us today. May we recognize the preciousness of each atom that, by being right where it needs to be, creates balance and stability and wholeness.
