Why I Choose to Live My Faith Outside of Organized Religion

While some say only one religion leads to God, and others might say all religions lead to God, I would say the opposite: That no religion leads to God.

Will God 2.0 Be Indispensable in Ten Years?

Deepak Chopra | Posted 12.08.2014 | Books

God only has a future if he (or she) becomes useful once more. We can think of this as God 2.0. Such as shift would have to happen on a level different from faith.

How Richard Dawkins Lost His Battle with God

Deepak Chopra

I am not saying that science is moving closer to God, only that the possibility of a conscious universe is very real in scientific terms. On that basis, the very things Dawkins defends so vociferously--reason, logic, data, experimentation--can be applied to reality beyond the five senses.

Have a Little Faith

What this world has become is something so undefinable and sometimes scary that I don't think anyone would make it without the belief in something bigger than themselves and people in general.

On my end, I've written that my meditation practice has been my "saving grace." Okay, if I am going to be honest... it is stronger than that. It has saved my life. With my daughter, I probably would have lingered in a consistent state of depression. I've had bouts, but with my practice I could always get out of it.

Science, Religion and the Assumptions We Make

Br. Guy Consolmagno, SJ

Besides the obvious fact that evidence can be misleading -- we tend to find only what we expect to see -- God is not something that comes at the end of a logical train of thought. Rather, my faith in God is my basic foundational assumption, the axiom that I start with when I do my logic.

"Why have holidays at all?" I asked myself. Why, other than to make money for CVS, do we have Halloween and Thanksgiving and Christmas? Don't we want to be thankful all the time for the good in our lives?

Religion aside, I firmly believe that those who argue that homosexuality is a choice do so in order to justify senseless beatings of gays and lesbians, and continued discrimination and mistreatment against them. I also believe without a doubt that it is a choice to be a nasty human being.

My view of God is simple. If there is a source of the most beautiful energy that we can see and feel which transcends our earthly existence, than the essence of that energy is God. Is the Bible the living word of God? I think it might have been centuries ago but we live in a different time now.

I have to admit after Deepak had spoken about cosmic consciousness, the big bang theory, and how we're all made out of stars, my mind was left trying to comprehend it all. Right now, maybe it's a little beyond comprehension.

There's no right or wrong, to each his or her own, and there's little to no judgment. So whether you believe in a creator, have a different religion or are an atheist -- it really doesn't bother me. I'm OK with you, and what you choose to believe in or not believe in

I realize that some may see this as a sign, an act of God if you will. There will be others, those who will doubt. And that's okay. But one thing's for sure, and that's how remarkably clear this image in the sky really is.

We try to display ourselves as strong, independent beings, as confident and un-phased by the events around us. In reality, it is often a show, a facade, a cry for attention rather than an element of fortitude.

Here is how I've learned to control how I react: I take a pause and put on the armor of God. Reacting emotionally means we are allowing the situation, or other people, to dictate how we feel and how we act. And if we do that, we will never come out of a bad situation victorious.
