If everyone were coming from the same place, then being born-again thanks to an epiphany would be a valid prescription to cure all spiritual ills. But it is just not that simple.

Rush routinely rejects the teachings of the Christian savior even as he gives lip service to the religion that Christ founded.

God came into my life because I allowed it to happen. I had no choice but to respond to the call of discipleship; to pick up my cross, I had to put down my gun.

As he stepped into office, President Obama was without a primary spiritual mentor, without a spiritual home and still bruised from the religious bludgeoning of the campaign. Some administration officials report that it was just at this moment that a change began.

Why doesn't my Catholic Church get its own house in order first? Get the plank/log/boulder/semi truck/elephant out of its own eye before it tries to remove a speck from another's eye?

Perhaps a new tradition speaks more clearly to them. Perhaps they return to their original religion but in a different, and often more committed, way than when they were young.

Time and again, fundamentalists buy the fantasy that the world's worst reprobates can fundamentally change. It never seems to occur to these credulous Christians that perhaps they are being had by the unusually bad.

In the comment threads of some of my posts here on Huffington Post, people have speculated about whether or not I'm "really" a Christian. So, I thought I'd share the story of my conversion.
