Among all the lessons borne from losing my husband to cancer, the one I see clearest is this: The best way to memorialize a loved one is to choose life. When life feels hard, I tell myself to keep going. I tell my children the same thing.

Whenever there is an issue with one of our children, I will always wonder if it has something to do with the fact that they lost their father. Although I will never truly know if this is the reason behind certain circumstances, I've learned to realize that the answer doesn't really matter.

Perhaps one day cancer and chemotherapy will visit our family again. But for now I am very happy to escort them from my home. Should my tea time visitors return one day, I'm certain that they'll be bearing the gifts of more life lessons.
