When pundits such as CNN's Jack Cafferty describe the Chinese government as a "bunch of goons and thugs" and Chinese products as "junk" it becomes clear that it is the newly fashionable position is to lay in to China.
Jeffrey Wasserstrom and Kate Merkel-Hess, 07.15.2008
We debunk five enduring myths about China, most of which linger because they are partly true while still being misleading, and some of which are kept alive by Chinese and foreign commentators alike.
Jonathan Lash, 07.23.2008
As we compete on the playing fields, China and the U.S. should not lose sight of where our interests coincide -- climate change.
Kavita N. Ramdas, 07.24.2008
In this age of globalization, the Chinese government can no longer assume that its whole-hearted embrace of free markets can occur without its own citizens pushing for other kinds of freedoms.
Susan Brownell, 07.19.2008
I think it is more accurate to conclude that the Olympic Games have been de-politicized in China's Olympic education efforts -- part of a backlash against the politicized national curriculum.
Alex Pasternack, 07.23.2008
After months of insisting on a non-politicized Olympics, pressure from international groups has advanced press and political freedoms in China.
Joe Lauria, 04.13.2008
Had the hundreds of billions of dollars poured into the invasion and occupation of Iraq been put into alternative energy the world might have had a fighting chance.
David Nassar, 07.16.2008
Instead of perpetuating a cycle of poverty among its workers, it's time Wal-Mart consider a meaningful wage increase for its U.S. employees who are struggling to make ends.
Juli Weiner, 07.14.2008
The furtive Chinese government does everything in its (far-reaching, for sure) power to silence the families of over 70,000 children a year who are being "snatched from the streets."
Tom Doctoroff, 07.17.2008
When 500,000 foreign visitors descend on Beijing during the Olympics, they will experience a kaleidoscope of contrasts -- some maddening, others glorious -- that disorient and confuse.
David Flumenbaum, 06.25.2008
Adam talked to the Huffington Post about the release of his new film Gunnin' for that #1 Spot, the current state of the Free Tibet movement, Obama, and why Brooklyn should secede.
Jeffrey Wasserstrom and Kate Merkel-Hess, 07.07.2008
Thanks largely to the Olympics, 2008 will go down in history as a turning point year for China -- or, rather, one when the country passed several milestones, including for the Chinese Internet.
Megan Shank, 07.13.2008
In using the date 8/8/08 for its biggest international event, the Chinese government has embraced the way of the people. Though a numbers conspiracy theory has many feeling anxious about the Games.
Jeffrey Wasserstrom, 06.30.2008
Assuming that people heading to Beijing have already been getting ready mentally, this regimen is for those who want to be informed consumers of Olympic broadcasts.
Steve Clemons, 07.17.2008
(Obama Does Brown but Not Brussels)
I'm strongly supportive of Barack Obama's announced plans to spend some quality plane time with Senat...
Susan Brownell, 07.12.2008
At the Beijing Olympics, will activists attempt to carry out public protests and demonstrations, and how will the Chinese authorities react if they do?

Is ticket stampeding the new Olympic sport?
Judges score = 0.
Anyone ever heard of overpopulation?
You would think that after all these years of planning the Chinese would have
figured out how to sell tickets without this kind of thing. Totally embarassing
but its doubtful in a land without a free press this got any coverage, any
coverage at all. HOPEFULLY these upcoming events will draw the world
attention to the fact that China day in and day out VIOLATES THE GENEVA
CONVENTION ON HUMAN RIGHTS.....perhaps when George W. arrives
he will give a speech in BEIJING DISCUSSING THIS AND EXPLAINING
WHY EVEN THOUGH CHINA IS A MASSIVE VIOLATOR OF
INTERNATIONAL LAW.....he is still going to enjoy the ceremonies
which will HONOR THE virtues and wisdom of this
very ancient civilization which while a LAWBREAKER
STILL MAKES SOME GOOD DISHES WORTHY OF
BEING EATEN.....
A " Sold Out " Olympics ? That is unheard of.
Wouldn't that be a slap in the face of those HuffPo bloggers who have been trying so hard to discourage people from attending the show and to boycott the Beijing Olympics ? Turns out the Chinese don't need foreigners to fill up the stadiums.
Do they have a Plan B to put down China ? Let's see it !
Wow. Fights broke out among the Chinese to get the last tickets to the Olympics. I wish I had some tickets to attend the nationally known event! However, I enjoy reading blogs from one of the Olympic sprinter, Shawn Crawford. Read and follow his journey from training to the Olympics. http://urbanthoughtcollective.com/author/shawncrawford/
