Indie producers do not make films to win awards. But they know how much a nomination can contribute to a film's life. The PGA's English-only stipulation is at best, an archaic rule. At worst, it opens the PGA up to the charge of xenophobia.
Films like Circumstance not only fail to raise sympathy for the severely repressed lives of homosexuals in Iran, but reduce their fight for equal rights to a pornographic sentiment.
