John McCain had a choice. He could have gone 'green' (or at least light green) when choosing a female Republican governor. He actually had multiple 'light green' options in front of him.

With access to global oil fields more restricted than ever, the oil companies are not going to be satisfied with the meager pickings from offshore wells.

This week's discovery -- using solar power to mimic photosynthesis -- could help us use the huge abundance of sun energy in a way that can give power to people everywhere.

Last week a mix of water and sanitation experts gathered for World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden to mull over the world's biggest public health crisis. The problem is that not enough people paid attention.

Hurricanes are big; nature is bigger. Natural systems, not engineered ones, are the only defenses big enough to rely on in a big storm.

Maybe not as exciting as the Democratic Convention, but even more critical for our survival, is a piece of news that went totally unnoticed this week. CO2 levels continue to rise, with no end in sight.

Just as the green alternative to bottled water is tap water, the logical alternative to fossil fuels is renewable energy.
Jeremy Jacquot, 08.25.2008
As things stand, the single biggest obstacle to effective climate change mitigation is the lack of a comprehensive, international accord.

Is this a strike against Obama? In some sense, yes, obviously it was the wrong vote on a horrible bill and he bears responsibility. But this kind of provincial vote is not exactly rare.

The UN estimates that two-thirds of the world's population will live in areas of water stress within the next 20 years. By the numbers, much of that population is in Asia.

In the mid-20th century global warming took a short vacation and temperatures cooled. But did the scientific community really warn of an imminent ice age?

Going beyond the mantras "use mass transit," "shop local," and "use renewable energy sources," the student group Partly Sunny seeks to go beyond the basics and maximize the effectiveness of those efforts through design and resourcefulness.

A famous quotation by a man who will be known in US history forever, not for the best he did, but for the mess we are in today:
"They had their chance. They have not led. We will. And now they come asking for another chance, another shot."
"Our answer?"
"Not this time."
"Not this year."
"This is not a time for third chances it is a time for new beginnings."

Hmmm¦was he thinking 2008?
#16 "Al Qaeda terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America ... he's worried that someone won't read them their rights?" Yes Governor, and I hope that any President of the United States would believe as much. This is America, and real, red blooded patriotism, is doing the right thing, no matter how hard it is. And ma'am it's hard to suppress the desire to hurt these people for what they have done, and would do once again. But we are better than that, and the whole world used to look up to us for that. Knowing that makes me a better patriot than you could ever dream of being.
I think we need to put Jon Stewart in charge of Obama's political ads. The side by side comparisons of the flips and lies are too compelling to ignore. Anybody remember McCain talking about 13 yr old Chelsea Clinton being "ugly"? Would love to see it contrasted to Obama's comment about families being "off-limits" when asked to respond to Bristol's situation. Someone should be able to dig it up.
"Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly?
Because Janet Reno is her father".
- John McCain, 1998
Charming.
Sure, but will the Dems actually use any of these ideas? More to the point, will they take the fight to McCain and Palin or will they continue the wimpy ways that have cost us elections, and so much else, in the past?
I am angry, and I just posted a blog that probally won't be approved, thanks anyway huff for letting me vent! On the serious note...this issue of race is scary. As a babyboomer, I don't know what I will do if the republicans get into office. When I look at the polls, I am amazed of how close they are, for I did not know that in 2008...we had so many racists among us! There are white babyboomers in the same shape as I am...one or two paychecks from becoming homeless, jobs shutting down, no healthcare, etc. We don't even get a discount on GAS or FOOD because we are middleclass to poor! What I hate is the evilness/demonic spirit that came from hearts and the mouths of those (ALL OF THEM) that spoke including the PIT BULL in lipstick at the cov. Will someone let her know she should be very careful for there are 18 million cracks in HER GLASS HOUSE! These people called themselves christians, and say Obama is Muslim, well the way that I see it right now I am more afraid of the rightwingednuts so-called christians than I am of terrorists...and they are like legions and there are many! By the way wearing buttons claiming the "Pit Bull w/lipstick" is HOT... is sexist!, oh ye hypocrites!
