The Clean Water Act turns 40 today. As many know, a 40th birthday can be a momentous occasion for some, an "it's all downhill" moment for others, and just another year for the indifferent.
Rob Weltner grew up on the south shore of Long Island so the South Shore Estuary looms large in his life. "Life for me revolves around the bay and the ocean and what's in it," says Rob.
Collectively, the power industry sucks in approximately 80 trillion gallons of water annually to cool their equipment. In the process, they kill on a massive scale fish, larvae and other aquatic organisms.
