The Dalai Lama, China's "Main Melody" and the Modernizing Propaganda State
China has taken steps to make it more costly, at least symbolically, to attack its narrative of strength, efficiency and progress at becoming a "normal" world power.

Coming in the wake of Newsweek's hiring of Karl Rove, and the Times' hiring of Bill Kristol, the mainstream media's embrace of these unabashed propagandists has revealed a self-loathing streak a mile wide.

CNN had a responsibility to be the necessary beacon in the night and instead, it drank the Kool-Aid and did exactly what it was told to do by people like, irony of ironies, Tony Snow.

"Clinton's Last Stand" "Obama Can't Close the Deal" "Bitter and Angry" Argh. It's a bad TV drinking game. For me, the hackneyed vocabulary of these politicos drains all meaning from the process!

Tony Snow has begun his new gig at CNN, and ancient declaimer of non-sequitirs Larry King's heart is so a-flutter that you'd think CNN had just hired a lissome blond, 50 years his junior.

The mainstream media seems intent on confirming that it has so internalized the Right's framing and messages they have now become part of its DNA. The first of the latest round of exhibits proving this was offered into evidence during last week's ABC debate. This was followed by the New York Times' epic revelation of the unseemly complicity between the Pentagon and the media in delivering the Bush administration's talking points on Iraq via "a kind of Trojan media horse" -- Pentagon-approved, prepped, and financially-enriched "military analysts" dutifully parroting the Bush party line, with nary a raised eyebrow from the TV stations and newspapers offering these highly-decorated sock puppets their prestigious platforms. And it's not just the media. Witness Hillary Clinton repeating the Rove-promoted lie that MoveOn was against intervention in Afghanistan after 9/11.

Nothing is more despicable than former military officers behaving like a bunch of Enron executives and knowingly lying to the American people about matters relating to war and peace.

This story should bring overwhelming public pressure for the immediate termination of any "military analyst" who has been compromised by links with the Pentagon and/or its business allies.

It says "his elitist," not "an elitist" attitude as though his statements were proof of something that already existed, but was, perhaps doubtful. Viewers, why don't you validate that for us here in Atlanta!
