In a word, marriage symbolizes commitment. Does that mean that Angelina and Brad weren't committed to each other before now? Of course not, but it is the ultimate vehicle to show that you are tied to one another in a traditional, social, and legal way for life.

When I was 18, I moved in with my first love. This was the late 1960s and as much as I loved him and he loved me, we both knew that we were too young to get married. Living together served many purposes, not the least of which was to seriously piss off our parents.
