Most of us do not know what it is like to be hungry and not have enough to eat. When we eat, the palatability of our food is not associated with our relief at finally being able to remedy our excessive hunger.
The Food Network can go kiss my grits. I find myself watching the channel all the time, tuning into the numerous cooking shows and their celebrity chefs with catchy monikers. I sit transfixed with feelings of inadequacy.
Stepping out of the world of professional chefs and restaurants for the first time in longer than I can remember, the experience of tasting the food of home cooks gave me a new perspective on food in this country.
