The distasteful fundraiser in Florida was a window into a worldview that shocked many people. But we don't need hidden-camera videos to reveal a philosophy devoted to protection for the powerful and contempt for everyday people.

Make no mistake: the Corporate Court has a very different agenda for unions than it has for corporate big spenders. In a decision last week, the Court started to chip away at the rights of unions to influence elections while continuing to leave corporations free to spend as they choose.

There are many oil-drenched casualties of the tragedy in the Gulf. It would be a shame if the integrity of the judicial system was one, as well.

I don't think we're always going to agree with everything she does, but we now know the Court will be getting someone who is committed to fundamental principles of fairness.
