There's a real problem when the President of the United States feels the need to become the entertainer-in-chief, especially when the joke's about very serious matters that have long-term consequences.
If the choice for salvaging the American economy is between Republican snake oil and the puff ball proposals of the president's CEO-laden jobs council, America will be in deeper and deeper trouble. And so will the president.
We have much to learn from successful CEOs and we should be grateful to those willing to serve. But limiting the dialogue on competitiveness to them limits our exploration into the root causes of our economic challenges.
