"The Carrie Diaries" suffered because each episode failed to be greater than the sum of its parts. As I watched from week to week, I found myself perplexed as to why I liked most of the actors, the writing, the music, and the wardrobe; but I was dissatisfied each time the credits rolled.
It's not so much that "The Carrie Diaries" is an injustice to the epic HBO series. It's just that the CW series can never live up to it--no matter how many times young Carrie wears funky outfits, obsesses over love or ruminates over "finding her voice" as a writer.
