Have you ever been criticized? Here's what to do when it happens...
Rejections still hurt, and I'm still at the mercy of the person reviewing my latest pitch. Maybe it will sell, maybe it won't. I'm not the only one writing my life story, of course. But like a true journalist, I'll keep experimenting... and reporting back on the results.
Why do some people seem to be forever defending, explaining or justifying themselves? Do you enjoy being around this person? Are you one yourself?
The next time you find yourself complaining, ask yourself, "What difference can I make that requires no one's permission other than my own?" The same question can be asked of someone who is complaining to you.
When criticism threatens to silence your voice, ask yourself: What am I making this criticism mean? What other interpretations are available to me? Then ask yourself, what belief that I hold about myself is this criticism touching upon?
